We had the good fortune of connecting with Slevin Mors and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Slevin, why did you pursue a creative career?
I am driven by a deep need to create or be creative. For me the act of creating is one of the main building blocks of life, its up there with love, food and shelter. No matter what happens in life I will always be driven to create. Because of this it only makes sense to always pursue some kind of career or 2nd income / hobby that involves being creative or artistic in some way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I focus on dark art. I pull a lot of inspiration from old Vanitas or Memento Mori painting. My biggest influence is Rembrandt and an old painting technique called Chiaroscuro. I like to play with light and dark within the image. I do this by using lighting or negative space to create a focus on the subjects or a mood within my image. I also enjoy employing a lot of juxtaposition in my artwork. Having an interplay of contrasting subjects or visuals that can both intrigue and repulse the viewer is a favorite of mine.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Food, Art and Cemeteries. Anywhere I travel these are the top 3 things to do – and in no particular order. I actually keep a list of travel destinations based solely on their cemeteries. Places I want to go just to walk the graveyards. Food and Art are easy to find in most places. I have no must see artworks I just enjoy taking in art of all kinds, even if I dont like it. There is always something to learn from art. Food, especially good food is always a plus to traveling. Finding new dishes or ways to enjoy old favorites.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve had a few people help out and assist me on my journey but no one consistently throughout. I’ve taken a little from everything over the years to build myself to where I am now.
