We had the good fortune of connecting with Sofiya Turin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sofiya, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
As a parent, I think that the most important thing that I have done for my children thus far is simply allowing them to be themselves. I have given them the time and the space to figure out who they are and what they love without forcing my opinions and preferences on them. I have encouraged them to find their gift and to consider how they wish to share this gift(s) with the world as they get older. Rather than focusing on competition and comparison, I have taught them to be themselves in the unique way that only they can and to know that no matter what, I will always be here to love and accept them for who they are. I believe that these are among the most important things that I’ve managed to do for my children since I had the privilege of bringing them into this world. I seek to be a guide and to lead them with love, respect, patience and understanding.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Words are my art. Communication is my art. Listening to others is my art. Patience is my art. Sharing my knowledge and experience is my art. I have so many interests and ways of expressing myself but the one thing that unifies all of these interests and passions is my unquenchable desire to do my part to make the world a better place in whatever way that I can, be it big or small. My soul purpose on this earth is to lighten the loads of others, to spread love and peace, to lift up and inspire those who cross my path to be the best versions of themselves possible. I am a channel and connector. I hear things unsaid and intuit that which cannot always be expressed in words. Nothing has been easy in this life, but once I stepped into alignment my soul’s purpose, everything began to make sense and I started to be guided to the right people, places and opportunties. I let go and let God place me exactly where I was meant to be. I showed up and did my best and the rest fell into place. there is a magic to living in alignment with the calling of one’s soul. It is the only thing that truly matters and the reason that we are here. The lessons that I’ve learned along the way is to get out of my own way and to believe in myself. It wasn’t easy at first but it is getting more natural for me to do so with each day. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. I have been putting one foot in front of another for a long time. I have been making steady and consistent progress. That is all we can do, one breath at a time. SoulRise Yoga and Coaching is a brand that seeks to inspire and encourage. It is a brand that seeks to empower others and to reconnect people with their soul’s truth. It is a brand that has the goal of helping people come back to themselves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love nature! As someone who has lived in the LA area for over 40 years, I have a lot of great recommendations. I love hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains and walking down sandy beaches. Pt Dume is one of my favorite beaches. I love drives up the coast and natural hot springs in Mammoth. I recommend visiting different parts of LA where visitors can experience the diverse foods and cultures of the world in the melting pot that is Los Angeles. There is something for everyone in Los Angeles!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this Shoutout to my dear grandmother, Bunya, who passed away 22 years ago. She was my rock and inspiration during some of the most critical and influential years of my life. She taught me to be strong and resilient, to believe in myself, and to have trust in a greater power. She taught me the meaning of courage and forgiveness, that everything passes in life-the good and the bad. She inspired me to strive for greatness and to use the myriads of opportunities presented to me to the fullest! She was my best friend and I miss her dearly but still feel her presence near me always.
