We had the good fortune of connecting with Solus The Happy Human and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Solus, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I grew up in Daly City, CA- then moved to Pittsburg in 6th grade. We moved from the city to the suburbs basically, and it impacted me by giving me an appreciation for both types of places. The city is full of culture and lessons to soak in- while the suburbs are like a blank canvas telling you to create your own culture and your own legacy. I had fun in both and it shaped me into who I am today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been rapping since middle school. Just for fun. In 2020 my homie Paul told me about a studio and I decided to spend my stimulus check and check it out. I go introduced to the world of professional recording and it’s been a road of refinement and (hopefully) improvement since that moment. I first discovered my love for rhyming in elementary school with yearly poetry units, they were always my favorite. Progression came naturally and I used my goofy demeanor and smile to take people off guard when I started rapping more seriously. The evolution from rapping on the blacktop to rapping in the studio was one that took around 15 years.

If I wanted the world to know one thing about my brand, it’s that I care about the art, the music, the visuals, etc. But more than anything what I care about is people having a good time. I see rap as a means towards that.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In San Francisco, I would go for a bite at Roxie Food Center – best sandwiches in SF. Then we could BART downtown and go to high-end retail shops and pretend we can afford anything in there. I’d cross the bridge to Oakland and walk around Lake Merritt with whiskey in a coke bottle, then catch an Uber to Pacific Pipe Climbing Gym for some sendage. We’d go eastward for dinner and eat Mexican food in Concord at Taqueria Los Gallos, then see an indie movie in Pleasant Hill.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Jonathan Moe. Without him I wouldn’t be where I am today. There are a ton of more people (my mom, Lacie S.) but he really got it started for me and pushed me to begin this long journey I’m on right now. Without him I’d be writing in my free time dreaming instead of actually putting the work in,
