We had the good fortune of connecting with Sonya Glass and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sonya, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Honestly, I wouldn’t know what else to do with myself if I wasn’t pursuing music. I wouldn’t recommend pursuing an artistic career unless it truly is what you feel you have to do. I say this because, there really isn’t a road map to success as an artist. So much of it is out of your control. I knew I wanted to be a singer songwriter when I was around 7 years old. I heard the song “Winter” by Tori Amos and I thought, someone finally understands how I feel. Then I thought, I want to do that, I want to be able to capture my feelings this way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most excited about my upcoming album. It has been a labor of love and I am extremely proud of the way it has come together. I think what separates me from other artists is I’m me. I have my own story, my own experience of this life, just like every other artist has their own unique experience. My hope is that my experience might speak to another persons experience and make them feel seen. I am where I am today because of the amazing support system I have. This journey hasn’t been easy but it has forced me to grow in ways I didn’t think were possible. I’ve learned that nothing is guaranteed and all I can do is continue to show up for this. I guess I want people to know life is difficult and sometimes it can kick your ass, but you really are never alone.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I only moved to LA a few months ago so I am no expert but I’ve really enjoyed exploring the nature here. I love going to sunken city in San Pedro. It is such a unique place. Intelligentsia is where I’d take anyone for coffee. There was also this amazing store in North Hollywood called intuition but sadly it closed.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who have helped me get to where I am. My producer/manager Shell Enns is by far my biggest supporter and champion. Without his encouragement and guidance I wouldn’t be where I am. My dad who has always supported me no matter what. My brother who inspired me to write. My best friends Holly,
Courtney, Lily and Hayley who are always in my corner. My voice teacher Deborah Benner who taught me how to really use my voice & my choir teacher Mr. Davidson who taught me there is always room for growth. Also my mother and my best friend Ella both of whom passed on but remain with me every time I go to record or write.
