Meet Sophie Collins | Co-Founder & Wellness Expert

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophie Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sophie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My business partner and I received so many blankets throughout our pregnancies and becoming moms and we wanted to create a product that could be anything from a burp cloth to a swaddle to a scarf that you wrap around you on the plane. We didn’t want to be wearing a muslin cloth with avocados on it when we were cold at brunch, so we came up with the Universal Throw. We carefully created the size and released it in specific colorways and patterns that would work well for a sophisticated palette. From there, we launched our Waffle Bath collection alongside our best-selling robes, kids robes, baby bath towels and this year we are building out our apparel collection to expand beyond The Everywhere Dress. All of our products are machine washable, mostly made in Turkey by hand-selected producers using oeko-tex certified cotton. We also strongly believe in giving back, so we have partnered with a new charity every year to support everything from Women’s Health Research to Children’s Health and this year we are excited to be supporting Baby2Baby. Everything we do is to make any One Wednesday as beautiful as your One Life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
One Wednesday is a female founded brand based in Vancouver, Canada. While we are both entrepreneurs, we are first and foremost mothers, daughters, aunties, sisters, partners, and friends.
We were inspired to launch this brand after meeting once a week on Wednesdays and having unfiltered discussions around navigating motherhood, work, health, and everything in between. From these organic conversations, our vision was born: to create simple products that support and elevate a layered life.
Life is not one-dimensional, and that’s why every good we provide is designed to be as dynamic as your day. By crafting pieces that are both functional and beautiful, we hope to enhance the small, ritualistic tasks of being human that are often rushed or overlooked.
We take sustainability as seriously as style. Our products are hand-loomed in Turkey by small, hand-picked, primarily female producers. Our Throws, Robes, and Towels are made with Oeko-Tex certified cotton which isn’t just environmentally-friendly, but also results in a stronger and smoother cotton thanks to its unique long fibers and quality of thread.
Our Everywhere Dress is an ode to our plans for the future; to supply quality pieces that celebrate the evolution of the modern woman. So whether you’re wrapping your baby up in our Throw, relaxing in our Robe with your morning coffee, or drying off after a surf session with our Towel, our collections encourage you to enjoy the journey.
From our home to yours, we hope you find the extraordinary in every ordinary “One Wednesday.”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
While Los Angeles is not my home, I have been lucky enough to spend a ton of time in the area. Malibu is one of my favorite places on the planet and I have loved my time there over the last few years. I love The Surfrider to stay because they have the most epic rooftop with farm to table food and amazing margaritas. Westward Beach is my favorite white sand beach to post up at and I love Broad Beach for surfing (I’m a beginner and the waves are super manageable). Venturing into the West Side, I never miss a chance to hit up Erewhon to discover the lates healthy treats, and I love popping into OSEA to stock up on some natural skincare. They’ve been a great partner to One Wednesday. Lastly, I know it’s obvious, but Gjelina has to be my favorite restaurant in the world. Amazing veggies, natural wines, incredible pizzas and a low-key vibe. What more could you want? PS – If you’re looking for the best flower delivery in LA, it’s definitely Letter Four!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have been lucky to be surrounded by so many successful and creative entrepreneurs. From some of my best friends to the general Vancouver and Los Angeles community, there has rarely been a day that I do not feel supported in one way or another. Also, I am very grateful to my community online for supporting my journey into motherhood and entrepreneurship. Lastly, I wouldn’t be where I am without my family and specifically my husband who has always supported and helped me along the way.
