We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophie Gragg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophie, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Allowing others to come on board and own their own projects. I used to manage just about every single aspect of Luna. From writing the articles myself to setting features up on the website – I did everything. Letting go of every single moving part and allowing my incredible staff to step up and become more involved was so crucial to the growth of Luna. I love hearing their ideas and being able to be a platform for them to bring their ideas to life. In 2022 my primarily focus was building a stronger than ever team that I could rely on and grow with and I’m so grateful I’ve been able to do that.

What should our readers know about your business?
Something that I feel ultimately sets Luna apart and has been a big contributor to our success to our genuine commitment to the creative community we get to be part of. Everything we do is with the intention to uplift and highlight creatives. Through editorial features, events, grants, educational panels and courses, we are consistently trying to provide a space and opportunity for our community to grow.

We get to collaborate with our “followers” and community all the time on our projects and it’s allowed us to have a really special relationship with our audience. This definitely didn’t happen overnight but I think as we’ve grown we’ve kept this practice as a core value and our audience – old and new – is able to see this.

I want people to know we are still very much committed to our creative community and love getting to work with them through our events, print projects, online content and more.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA has something for everyone and the best way to get a taste of the city it to experience it all. My highlights for a visitor often include picnicking at Echo Park, catching a show at The Greek or The Hollywood Bowl, making the drive up to Point Dume (eating at Geoffrey’s if time permits) and hiking at Escondido Falls. Melrose and Fairfax are great for window shopping and people watching while Beverly Hills and West Hollywood has a lot of good food spots. Last but not least will have to be a sandwich from Larchmont Wine & Cheese shop – if you know, you know.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My staff! Never in a million years did I think I’d be getting to lead and work with a team of over 100 creatives around the world. From our writers and photographers to our editors and everyone in between, I get to work with the most talented, kind and inspiring group of young creatives and it never gets old.
