We had the good fortune of connecting with Soukhya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Soukhya, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote/affirmation is “it is your life and it is worth risking everything to make it yours.” I realized I only have one life to pursue my dream and if that means taking risks, whether that’s performing at a huge venue or moving to a different city, I need to go for it. Continue to focus on the people that support you and let that be a motivator for you. Growth is on the other side of comfort and that means taking risks and doing things that scare you. You are your biggest cheerleader, support yourself! You never know what could come out of it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is SOUKHYA (pronounced Soak-yah), I was born and raised in the Bay Area and have been singing/performing for 23+ years. I learned Indian Classical Music (Hindustani Classical) for 15 years and continued to pursue Bollywood & Western Pop throughout my college career and on social media platforms. In high school, I had two lung surgeries because of a collapsed lung which I was able to endure for so long because of my music training. I am so grateful to have healthy lungs that continue to support me. In March of 2020, I became the First Indian American Woman to sing the National Anthem for the NHL where I performed for a crowd of over 20,000 people. During the pandemic, I created a TikTok account (@soukhyaa) where I have over 500,000 supporters, all of which I am so thankful for. I also performed for the NBA & hope to sing for the NFL as well. I’ve released a few songs – feel free to check out my music on all streaming platforms! I recently moved to Los Angeles to continue to pursue my music & acting career as I recently acted in two movies earlier this year. I love to connect with my audience and truly hope to connect with other South Asians through my creative journey.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love this question because my cousin is basically my best friend and she just visited me this past weekend, so I’ll give you a run down of what we did! The first day, we walked over to the Grove, and went to the La La Land Cafe. The Grove is a beautiful area so we also did a little shopping & walked through the farmers market before ending our night at the Cheesecake Factory. The next day we drove over to a new store opening at Century City Mall and then headed over to Santa Monica where we went to a cute brunch place and walked down to the pier & beach. We did a little more shopping (we are literally shopaholics) and then drove over to the Griffith Observatory for sunset. On our last day together, we went to Rodeo Drive & the Getty Museum!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

My parents & brother have been a huge part of my success and I am so grateful to have their constant support throughout my life. Whether I’m posting a video, performing at an event, or even making a huge move to LA to pursue my dream (which i just did a couple weeks ago), they have always been by my side as my biggest fans. I couldn’t have done a lot of things if it weren’t for them, they are always looking out for me. I am so thankful.
