Meet Stacey Tannenbaum-McIver

We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacey Tannenbaum-McIver and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stacey, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind cofounding WUUMLA was rooted in noticing a significant gap in accessible, holistic physical and emotional health care for girls and women in my community. I wanted to partner with other providers to create a beautiful, safe and welcoming space where women could gather, receive emotional and physical support and care in addition to providing education panels, supportive resources and a place to gather and create. It was super important to me to that WUUMLA would be a space that created trust, bonding and EMPOWERMENT. My vision expanded after hearing many women’s stories, understanding their challenges and having the desire to be a part of a solution that addressed women’s immediate needs as well as their long term well-being

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
WuumLA is a women’s health collective in Santa Monica, California. WuumLA is a place where girls and women are honored at every stage of their journey from the first signs of puberty to menopause and beyond. Rooted in shared experiences guided by the sincere belief that every stage of womanhood deserves reverence, We offer an inclusive, judgement free space to connect, learn, heal and grow. I’m incredibly proud of the space we’ve created and the offerings we provide including women’s circles, one on one services including mental health counseling, lactation support, physical therapy, acupuncture, herbal remedies and more! This was a vision I had for a decade but taking the leap didn’t come easily as there was always something holding me back whether it was financial, fear of can I really do this! Someone once told me when the right people come to me it will happen! Crazy enough this is exactly what happened and WuumLA was created…I want people to know that dreams do become reality with hard work, overcoming fear and doubt, taking risks and finding your PEEPS!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This question is awesome and I just had guests visiting from Seoul so perfect timing.! We spent a lot of time at the beach, fruit cups from the beach vendors is an absolute must! Shopping on Main Street and Abbot Kinney with a walk on the Venice Boardwalk for some epic people watching. And don’t miss the incredible skaters at the famous Venice Beach skate park. Dinner at La Cabana in Veniceis a great way to end the perfect Santa Monica and Venice day. Now if we were to venture out of the Westside I would definitely include a night at the Hollywood Bowl, shopping on Melrose Avenue and renting a swan boat in Echo Park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a huge Shoutout to my amazing partners at WUUMLA! I love what we’ve created together and what each one of us brings to the table!
