We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacy Arellano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stacy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started this business during the pandemic. I was working from home and I had a lot of time on my hands. Not being stuck in an office 8 hours of day really made me realize that I was not optimizing my potential. I was so use to not having the energy or will power to do anything after my workdays. Now with my new found freedom and flexibility, I became passionate about figuring out what I really enjoy doing. I’ve always had a passion for hosting, decor and adventure, I put those concepts together and came up with Wndrlnd Picnics. A business that provides luxury pop up experiences. It allows me to share some of the things I love with my clients and it brings me joy. It’s something I can call my own, gives me full creative control and I’m not confined to an office.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Wndrlnd Picnics is a business that provides luxury pop up experiences: picnics, beach days, private movie nights, private dining, proposals and more. One of the things that sets me apart from others is my variety of services. It started with picnics and has expanded to be so much more. I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve grown this business on my own. I’m the CEO, manager, picnic coordinator, administrator, customer services, public relations, accountant, personal shopper, inventory manager, laundry doer, dishwasher, photographer and social media manager. I got to where I’m at today by simply believing in myself and that’s the same way I’ve overcame the challenges. Growth does not exist without risk and I believe that I can accomplish anything. I’ve learned to value my work and be confident about it. If there’s anything I want the world to know about my story is that you’re never too old to dream. Don’t live wondering what if, take that risk and start that business you’ve always dreamed of today. You never know where it’ll take you until you simply do it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take them to the Palos Verdes cliffs for a picnic, Paradise Cove Beach Cafe for a beach day in Malibu, Disneyland because it’s always magical, the Perch for brunch, Lock & Key to drink & dance to good music, Mama Lu’s for dumplings, Broken Shaker for poolside drinks on a rooftop, Silverlake Ramen because they’re the best, brewery hopping in Art District, Baekjeong for kbbq, The Broad and LACMA for an artsy day, Otium for a nice elaborate dinner, The observatory and the Hollywood Bowl Overlook for the best city views, Eataly for some fresh handmade pasta, Openaire for bottomless mimosas in a green house and they can’t leave LA without going to Tacos Los Poblanos for some Tijuana style tacos and Teddy’s Red Tacos for birria tacos.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My boyfriend deserves all the flowers. Without him, this wouldn’t be possible. He’s the muscle behind my business. He has selflessly supported me from the very beginning. I never ask him to tag along to help me with these bookings, he simply does and expects nothing in return. He’s always done everything any anything to make my life easier and that has also applied to my business. He’s the private chef for Wndrlnd Picnics and that itself allows me to stand out amongst other picnic companies. I’m able to keep the private dining experience in house thanks to him. He just wants to see me win and I love him for that.
