We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Amaro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephanie, why did you pursue a creative career?
At times its been very difficult but I honestly feel like I had no other choice. It’s what I’m good at. Music, art, dance, glamor…those are things that excite and motivate me. I’m on the autism spectrum, therefore it’s exceedingly difficult for me to fake enthusiasm for or put long hours into something I’m not passionate about.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’d like the world to know that the arts are important, they may even be the MOST important. And that there are some of us that are born into this world destined to pursue the arts whether we want to or not, whether the society you were born into respects your calling or not. Making music my career wasn’t easy by any stretch of the imagination, but looking back on my resume and accomplishments I’m pleasantly shocked at what I was able to accomplish despite my inner struggles. One thing about me is that I’m pathologically sincere, and fortunately sincerity is what the audience responds to the most.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Knowing my small circle of friends and I, there would need to be at least two days of decompression and conversation in the seclusion of my home with champagne, couch karaoke, and home cooked meals. Then maybe a night cap at the 7 Grand for some amazing whiskey cocktails. I would see which of my friends were playing locally and go support. The Eastside Luv Bar is always a vibe, as are the old fashioned mariachi dinner shows that LA is famous for, like at Casa Sanchez near Venice. During the weekdays while everyone is at their day job, my favorite thing is to escape to a fancy rooftop hotel pool, just to people-watch the business class jet setters while getting a tan.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In the past I was so sensitive to criticism, if it weren’t for two stand-out individuals in my life I don’t know where I’d be. First is my best friend Sharon. We had similar childhoods and we both chose unconventional paths in life. She’s so encouraging, so honest. She’s given me the courage to accept myself for who I am. The other is my dear friend Ernesto Casillas. He’s a world renowned celebrity makeup artist that I’ve known since he was a budding artist obsessed with his craft. I’ve seen how his dedication and love for what he does, his work ethic, and his authenticity have taken him to the absolute top of his field. That he values me as an artist after being up close and personal with so many absolute legends is a cherished thought that keeps me going.
