Meet Stephanie Lekkos | Sound Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Lekkos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been an entrepreneur. I worked with different ideas over the years, but it wasn’t until I discovered Sound Therapy that I knew what my true calling in life was. What a relief and a gift that was!
During the Covid lockdown, I found myself not feeling well, even though I didn’t have the virus. I think I was simply agitated. I had terrible vertigo and couldn’t figure out why. With a single crystal singing bowl I started exploring sound vibrations. My daughters became interested and we embarked on a journey together that changed our lives forever. We loved it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Sound therapy doesn’t require a particular language or belief system—it’s inherently pure. There’s no judgment, and no need to explain oneself. Anyone can participate, and the experience is uniquely personal for each individual. The comments I receive never cease to amaze me.
In my work at the Amend mental health treatment facility, I’ve witnessed clients experience profound relief, often leaving sessions feeling peaceful, calm, and rejuvenated. Many have become more open to the other therapeutic modalities they’re engaged in, demonstrating how sound therapy can complement and enhance traditional treatments.
The success of my sound therapy brand is deeply rooted in the origins of a self-healing practice. My understanding of sound and vibration comes not only from my personal experiences but also from watching the profound impact it has had on my daughters and the clients I treat. This has inspired me to find ways to serve others, blending my passion for healing with my professional aspirations.
I’ve always encouraged my two daughters to trust their intuition. When they were younger, we played games like guessing the number I was thinking of or the color of the front door of a new place we were about to visit. These simple experiences laid the groundwork for their intuitive abilities, which they’ve carried into the hundreds of sound healing sessions we’ve done together. As a single mother, I believe the most important thing I’ve done is to create an open, fertile environment for them to explore their passions freely and to encourage them to be their authentic selves. I’m incredibly grateful for my girls. They are wonderful young women with a strong sense of self, and I know they will make a meaningful difference in the world. That makes me incredibly proud.
Running my business has been an exciting and stimulating process—one that allows me to tap into my creativity in ways I never imagined. I’m now launching a course on Teachable, which will teach people how to use sound to calm the nervous system and bring balance to the body and mind. I believe this is the ideal starting point for sound therapy. Additionally, I’m reaching out to medical professionals, as sound therapy can be integrated into allopathic medicine. Facing surgery can be daunting, but using sound therapy before and after surgery can significantly reduce pain and stress, enhancing recovery.
As someone who is hypersensitive, I’ve learned to embrace my sensitivities rather than let them overwhelm me. I’ve found that they actually help me discern what will soothe someone and what might not, guiding the way I conduct my sound sessions. My work, therefore, often feels less like a job and more like a calling—though carrying gongs and crystal bowls can be physically demanding! What brings me the most joy is collaborating with my daughters and their friends, whom I’ve trained. It’s such a beautiful gift to spend time with the people I cherish while also helping others in the process.
Life, however, isn’t always a walk in the park. I have tools I use to keep myself in balance, with meditation being a key part of my routine. I practice mindfulness and ensure I carve out quiet time for myself, as well as time with my daughters. Maintaining that balance is crucial for me. Success cannot simply be about making money—it’s about creating a sense of harmony within.
What truly keeps me happy is the heartfelt feedback I receive from clients, both in-person and online. It’s incredibly uplifting. I tend to feel happiest when I see others happy, but I also know that true happiness comes from within. That’s why I prioritize nurturing the inner garden. I never take anything for granted and remain deeply grateful for every moment I have here. My daughters are my greatest gifts, and the joy I feel in seeing them happy, healthy, and on their true paths is immeasurable. I never imagined I could make such a profound difference in people’s lives. While it can sometimes be overwhelming, I take it as a clear sign to continue moving forward with purpose.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my bestie to grab a Sunlife smoothie before heading to a secret hike I know on the Backbone Trail in Malibu. The terrain is such a surprise—it looks like you’re on Mars. There are beautiful caves to explore and even a labyrinth made of stones by other visitors. For lunch, we would head to the Sunset Restaurant, which overlooks Westward Beach. Afterward, we would walk to Point Dume for the most breathtaking and scenic view in all of Malibu.
Next, I’d grab my Pomeranian and take a stroll at the most beautiful dog-friendly beach in Malibu, Broadbeach. At low tide, during sunset, the colors in the sky reflect off the wet, reflective sand, creating the most incredible beach walk you’ll ever have. On another day, we’d visit Cross Creek for some shopping, making sure to stop by the Saje aromatherapy store to restock on our favorite uplifting scents. After that, we would walk over to the Malibu Pier to have lunch while overlooking the famous Surfrider Beach.
By now, it’s probably time for a little R&R, so we’d stroll across the street for a relaxing Thai massage. Being raised in a Greek culture, we would end the day with a delicious Greek dinner, complete with live music and dancing at Taverna Tony’s.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My two daughters – Sophie and Coco. And my intuitive life coach and meditation teacher, Pavitraa Stonecloud.
