We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephen Scarantino and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephen, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
Teaching my son everything they didn’t teach us in school, I try to teach him life skills which include respecting himself and others, money managing, the importance of physical and mental health, etc.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m Stephen Scarantino the owner of Bull Gogi Boys, San Antonio’s first Korean Food Truck. What sets us apart is our uniqueness and we pretty much make everything, so it’s really our own flavor. I’m most proud of sharing my culture through my family’s food. It was not an easy journey, I had no experience, my first year was full of trial and error, I’m a quick learner that think logically so that helped me evolve. I learned many lessons….one lesson was to control your own path and narrative, too many people have opinions on how things should work, when in reality there’s many ways to succeed. I would want the world to know about me is I’m genuine and I have a genuine story through hard work, we really started from the bottom. No grants No ppp loans I worked everyday during the pandemic. Our brand represents being true to oneself, it don’t matter what background you come from or what race or what social class, we can all support each other culture.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d say The Pearl (downtown San Antonio), there’s a bunch of lakes and rivers near here if you like outdoors. This is a Taco city so you definitely need to go try some Tacos throughout the city. Texas has great beer so that’s a must.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother, we use a lot of her recipes that I had to learn and implement into my business. My wife, she is in the Air Force and still helps as much as possible…without those two we wouldn’t be where we are.
