Meet Sterling Hampton | Film Director and Studio Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sterling Hampton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sterling, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my company out of necessity due to particular jobs that required me to formalize my infrastructure. I’m an artist at heart but in that moment I had adapt myself into the land of entrepreneurship. My company allows myself and my colleagues to take on larger projects and reach more people as a result. Clash of The Artistic Minds is a multimedia production house with an emphasis on motion picture storytelling and branded content.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to provoke and challenge with my self-funded work. There’s no barrier to achieving this because these short form projects are created often times in a unilateral way where final cut is under my control. When this is happening, I can tell stories in their most honest and raw form. My soul feels best when I can tell these stories absent of any third party agenda or control. Not to say that third party control is an inherent negative. But being able to tell stories the way you want is the most rewarding experience. It’s an immediate communication pipeline to others who view your work.
Within the context of fiscal advancement, I like to retain as much creative volatility and provocation as possible but with the interest of most wide appeal and monetary gain when there are third parties involved. This is of course the general condition of being an artist for a living.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I really enjoy Malibu. Brunch and an inspiring view every so often is a recharge.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shoutout my mentors and friends at the FYI, Black Eyed Peas and my colleagues at COTAM that continue to enable me in the pursuit of art and communication.
