We had the good fortune of connecting with Steven Angel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Steven, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from New York. I was a child prodigy on the drums. I performed with the great Buddy Rich when I was 6 years old. At 12 I was on tour playing in front of crowds up to 25 thousand people and at 16 I recorded with Jimi Hendrix. My relationship with rhythm led me to the work I’m doing today where my company Drumming for Your Life is using rhythm to connect education, mental health, physics, eastern philosophy, neuroscience and music.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets us apart is how we use rhythm for education and healing. We address anxiety, depression and deep fears that stem from low self esteem. We work with both the conscious and subconscious mind in a way that’s expressive, fun and empowering. The journey has been hard because many things we were working with 20 years a go are just recently being accepted. We are now being acknowledged for our work by the mainstream as we expand our work with major institutions, which is very exciting. The key is when you believe in something so strongly and know that what you’re doing is very helpful then you must persevere and trust that others will see the benefits of your work also. You become purpose driven.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A shoutout to my family who have been very supportive throughout the years.
