Meet Steven Canatella | Wedding Videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Steven Canatella and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Steven, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I am very lucky to be married to a first grade teacher who wakes up at 5am. I was never a morning person growing up, but waking up early has become a habit I find very beneficial. While I believe I can be productive late at night and into the early morning, theres nothing like knocking out all the tasks I dread first thing in the morning instead of consistently putting them off throughout the day.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m the owner of Louisiana Is For Lovers – Wedding Videography. Since 2015, we’ve been filming loving moments, priceless memories, and happy groom tears. Storytelling has always been a passion of mine and I’m very lucky to do it professionally through video production. If I were doing this a decade or two ago, I would have been giving people DVDs or VHS to sit dormant in their house, but with the power of the internet, hundreds of thousands of people literally from all over the world have seen the work we do in South Louisiana, and that’s a really cool concept the think about. We live in an incredible time and I’m thankful to take full advantage of it.
It’s said that your wedding day is a day you will never forget. However, without necessarily realizing it, it’s also a day where details are very easy not to remember. Many married couples will tell you their day went by so fast being pulled in different directions by coordinators, photographers, families, and guests. When producing our wedding films, we are most proud of capturing those special details that will be a blur in their memories. We’re not only talking about how the flowers were set up, or how a certain display was arranged, but by including as much of the audio that we can for each of our couples. A wedding film without good, clean audio, is just a moving slideshow.
Business-wise, it took a lot of education to get where I currently am and I’m still learning new things every year. After working as a second videographer for a few amazing companies after college, I decided to try it on my own in 2015. While I knew I had the technical skills to capture good video and audio and the ability to edit everything into a nice story, I learned that starting a business and running a business are very different.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My wife and I currently live in Denham Springs, Louisiana. You can usually find us at our favorite sushi spot, Geisha, which happens to also be where we had our first date on Valentines Day 2014. We have a nice Historic District & Antique Village in town that’s a fun place to explore on an early Saturday morning. We also have a dog friendly brewery down the road, Le Chien Brewing Company, which features great live music and an on-site food truck with the most delicious Oreo beignets you’ll ever eat. (There’s also TWO trampoline parks in town that my wife insists our five month old is too young for… but as he grows I know we will definitely take advantage of those!)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have many people I would like to recognize for my success. First, my wife, Lindsay, for always believing in me, even when I told her I was quitting my forty hour a week job to film weddings full time. My parents, Sam and Beverly, for always being supportive of whatever dream I had growing up.
