We had the good fortune of connecting with Steven Mendez Jerry Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Steven Mendez, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We wanted to find a way to showcase our culture within the American wedding industry, creating an experience that makes both the couples and our community feel proud.
Mexican cuisine is renowned for its exceptional flavors and is considered some of the best in the world. However, there is a noticeable lack of representation of our culture in this space.
Our goal has been to elevate tacos by combining delicious, authentic food with aesthetics that complement the celebration, creating a memorable and culturally rich experience.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We are incredibly proud of where we are today. Artisan Taco has been warmly received by our community, and every time we’re out in the field, we receive compliments that truly motivate us. It brings us a great sense of joy to know we’re on the right track.
However, we’ve found that catering is often underestimated. There’s so much behind running a catering business, planning, staffing, shopping, cleaning, cooking, serving, and even more cleaning, SO MUCH CLEANING! The workload is never-ending, and staffing has been one of our biggest challenges, teaching us many valuable lessons along the way.
Today, we are grateful for our dedicated team, whose hard work and have been instrumental in our growth.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to Merced Mendez, Steven’s wife, who has been a constant source of inspiration behind the aesthetic of our business. She consistently challenges us to be the best version of ourselves and never fails to bring incredible ideas.
We also want to extend our gratitude to Jerry’s parents, whose support has been invaluable throughout our journey. They laid the groundwork in the taco business before us, making our path much easier.
