We had the good fortune of connecting with Sunil Bhaskaran and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sunil, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
There have been several businesses in the past and in the present. I usually start with the end in mind – i.e. what I want to have happen in the future – how this business will positively impact the world, my communities and myself.

When I started out Global Communities, LLC – I started with the future vision of Having 100 Million Joyful and Successful Entrepreneurs Globally by 2050. There are specific measures regarding what constitutes Joyful and Successful.

From there I looked to see
1. What are the major initiatives I need to start and create as projects.
2. What are the milestones to hit.
3. What types of partners to enroll into this game.
4. What structures or systems to start designing and building.
5. What should my dashboard look like to give me immediate status on each task or project – Then build this dashboard.

So for 1., for example, I created a project – an online school www.GlobalSmallBusinessSchool.com to start educating entrepreneurs in how to make their business joyful and successful.
So for 2. for example, I have a set of measure to meet every month, quarter, year. This is refined every week almost.
So for 3. for example, I figured out I need Joint Ventures with other people with databases of entrepreneurs to set up win win promoting opportunities.
So for 4. for example, I created a new project management system to manage it all. This turned out to be a great product itself to sell or introduce to entrepreneurs – it is intuitive, easy to learn and use and enables the entrepreneur to reduce stress and never forget anything.
So for 5., I created a dashboard to track all projects at one glance and to take appropriate actions to keep the projects on track.

What should our readers know about your business?

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I like to take my people out on meaningful excursions with good, tasty, well cooked meals.

1. If in SF:
a. A personalized creative tour of Mare Island. Wonderful unique structures that date back to World War 2 and the peace and quiet makes this a memorable outing.
b. A meal at a lovely Burmese restaurant – my favorite.
c. A walking tour of the city.

2. If in LA, I like to enlist my friend David – a film producer- to do a Hollywood Historical tour filled with interesting visits to places of interest.
Eat some great hamburgers (some of the best I ever tasted) at local joints or really good Mexican food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mentor who taught me the ropes of business and mentoring from 1991. I do not mention his name as he requested anonymity.

Elizabeth Green who taught me the true value of listening and listening well.

My parents and family who, despite being confused as to what I actually do – supported and loved me unconditionally.

The hundreds of other mentors, groups and communities who supported me through programs and other forms of support.

My wife Glenda for her unconditional love and listening.

For all my former girlfriends for their love.

All my friends who have been there for me and with me from the start.

All my beautiful clients who show me love and continually teach me the value of being a stand for what they believe in.

To all of you, I say a big thank you.
