Meet Sunni DiLuzio | Artist, Musician, Chef

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sunni DiLuzio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sunni, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am the eldest woman in a family of 8 children originally from New York. I was raised to provide for myself and others and to always hustle and grow, nothing was ever given – it was earned. I knew from a young age that I would have to provide a life for myself and continue to discover and pursue my passions, as anything I wanted I had to work for myself. This foundation has enabled me to have a sturdy grounding, a hardworking attitude, and a zest for life. For learning, for playing, for living, and for unearthing love and kindness in all of the world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As long as I can remember, I have been a creator. I have always been interested in what makes people light up, what inspires them, what fuels them. I have always seen art and spirit in everything around me and have always felt invigorated by the passion and creativity of such inspired souls. I always knew I was meant to be a performer, an entertainer, someone to stand for others and share my gift with the world. Although it took a lot of time to feel confident in my own skin and to truly believe in myself, my focus has always been creation and expression. I have never ceased to give myself room to grow and to discover myself over and over again through writing music, singing, sharing, connecting, expressing. And I am lucky to have the privilege to do so everyday. Through immense challenges, highs and lows, different cities, places and people – the one light that never dims is my pursuit of creativity and connection to others. Passion is a remarkable thing, and everyone has their own flavor, their own talent waiting to be discovered and developed. I feel very blessed to have found that and kept it close for most of my life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well – I live in Chicago now, which is the most beautiful major city I have lived in the US. So, first things first, we would only be using bicycles as transportation to better take in all of the stunning architecture, natural prairelands, and also skip any traffic. We’d also need to work up an appetite continuously to get in all the delicious bites that Chicago has to offer. We would have to hang out on Lake Shore Drive, check out Downtown and The Bean, catch a comedy show or a set at The Empty Bottle, and eat all of the delicious foods. You’d definitely need to try a Chicago Hot Dog and an Italian Sandwich from Bari. With a fully belly – taking a mural tour would be the move. There is so much beautiful street art in Chicago and you could take a whole day or more to explore the vast scene, my favorite Chicago Muralist being Joe Miller.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and my chosen family are who I owe all my success to. Without my upbringing and experiences I would never know how to treat others. Without my chosen family, my friends along the way, I would have never known how to treat myself. Community is everything, connection is everything. Sharing our vulnerabilities with others only brings us closer to one another and this earth, our only true purpose in this life.
