We had the good fortune of connecting with Supersonia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Supersonia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I like to present Supersonia as a a daring odyssey through electric dreamscapes and grungy guitars. The though of starting my own musical project came from the artistic need to put out something that is myself, that is independent, that is unaccountable, does not care of the mainstream, that holds its own identity, and that only has the ambition to be heard by those who wants to.

The music business is in a pretty weird place today, and with AI making a lot of things seemingly not worth spending time on creating “organically”, it is easy to be discouraged. But as always, I think any art form should be done for oneself, and hopefully others enjoy it, and/or jump on the ride with me. And if not, that’s ok too. What matters is the doing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Supersonia is a sound that lives between worlds — a collision of heavy guitars, cinematic textures, and the lingering pulse of retro-futuristic dreams. Supersonia’s music tells stories: about creation and decay, about the fragile thread between what was, what is, and what might have been.

What sets Supersonia apart is the blend the emotional rawness of alternative rock with a deep love for science fiction, mythology, and surrealist art. The universe of Supersonia is guitar-driven but also painted with synthesizers, inspired by the spirit of late-’80s Japanese animation, alternate futures, the poetic chaos of imagined worlds, and the interest to marry lyric writing with storytelling.

As an indie band, self funded, unsigned, and starting from scratch, launching the first single was challenging, and trying to define what Supersonia is, and why it can have its space in today’s musical landscape has been challenging and intimidating. But the more we release more songs, the more it makes more and more sense.

The biggest lesson learnt was that time does not wait. I used to be more hesitant to release material and would let things dragged. Never releasing something is worst than doing it with little defect probably only you will notice, while learning from it on the way.

What Supersonia wants the world to know is simple: Supersonia is an invitation. It’s not just music — it’s a journey. A place where mythology and future collide, where emotion drives the spaceship, and where every song is a fragment of a much larger story still unfolding.

We’re just getting started.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think DTLA Art district with all the local coffee craft shops, brunch places (Urth Café), odds industrial areas, but also the local breweries (like Angel City or Golden Road). Speakeasies are also fun to experience (No Vacancy, in Hollywood is pretty unusual).

A walk around the LA river (accessed through Frog Town) will give an unusual sight of LA.

You can’t experience LA without Mexican food, so Poquito Mas, El Compadre, or the less known Teres. But really, even a taco truck will have better Mexican food than anywhere in the US.

A quick visit of the batcave, before checking out Abbott Kinney, and exploring the “West side”.

I’d probably want to check out a few landmark music venues, like the Troubadour, El Cid, The Wiltern, or the smaller venues where local bands play.

And would allocate a few days to check out Yosemite, Joshua Tree, Morro Bay, and relax in the nature.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout would be to David Bowie, and how he understood that being an artist is about a need and a way to better understand oneself. He explains it so well in that video “why you should never play to the gallery”. And my mum, for letting play electric guitar late in the evenings.
