We had the good fortune of connecting with Tabetha Michelle Awen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tabetha Michelle, how do you think about risk?
Is a life lived without risk really a life lived? I’m not sure it is Although what is seen as risky to me, may not be what other people envision. It is not the adrenaline rush of skydiving or moving to another country on a whim. It is the risk of breaking free from others expectations. It is the risk of being your fullest and truest self. The risk of not settling even when it seems scary to hold out for what you truly deserve.

These may seem simple things, but they are the most important things and often the most challenging. A choice we don’t just make just once, but have to remake every day. It is my calling to help other people lean into this choice. To feel comfortable and empowered choosing their authentic selves. It is also a choice I try to model every day.

Though the risk of taking the path less followed can certainly be challenging, even for me, perhaps especially for me. Allow me to explain. I am a Hypnotherapist, Empowerment Coach and Healer. I am a budding writer and a Druidess. I am a nature lover and “mama” to two devilishly cute kitties. This is me, these are the things that bring me joy. But beneath all this there is also a woman living with multiple complex chronic illnesses.

Because my illnesses lie unseen, their story is a whispered poem only I can hear.
A story at times murmured through blood, sweat and tears and at others sung through notes of perseverance, magic and triumph. And this story is not just mine, there is a similar tale quietly hiding behind the face of every disabled or chronically ill person out there.

If we are talking risk, as a coach just sharing my health challenges and disability is a risk, one many choose to hide. But it is so important to me to use my voice to break stigma.I do not hide that I am disabled because it is not something to be ashamed of.

I am the healer and coach I am because of all I have overcome not in spite of it. People who have chronic illness have been to battle everyday and won. Any human who can come out the other side of this still able to strive, to give their love and talents to others? That is a person you do not want to underestimate, I’ll tell you that much. To bring this awareness to how amazing this community is – is why the risk is worth it to me.

Personally I have become such a strong coach and healer not down to my certifications and modalities but because I was the first person I healed. Now I don’t just survive my day to day challenges I thrive and live my very best life, risks and all.

I love bringing these tools and this thriving mindset to others, especially other women, knowing that this same power and freedom lies within them as well. It’s already there, it’s just needs a little spark to set it ablaze.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, Energy Healer and Celtic Druidess: I have one foot planted firmly in the world of fact and science, while the other foot dangles dreamily in the esoteric, energetic and magical.

When someone comes to me their goals can vary, whether it is to really level up in their career and call in abundance. To tackle negative habits. Or to truly embrace self love and joy; I am blessed to be able to assist in all these ways.

Something I think that sets me apart in this work are the many tools and modalities I combine to maximize healing for my clients. Seeing me is like seeing not just a hypnotherapist, but also a reiki master, a best friend, a coach and an Nuero Linguistic Practitioner all in one. But by far my favorite bonus tool to work with is Goddess work, using Goddess Archetypes and Divine Feminine Energy to help women see how amazing and powerful they really are. This is a huge passion of mine.

Another thing that I believe sets me apart is how I see each client as the amazing individual they are. If you come to me with a goal or seeking help in finding your own voice and power you will always find an honest and safe space here. You are an perfectly unique snowflake, you deserve better than the one size fits all approach. I always base things around you and your beautiful unique self.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Personally my favorites spots in LA are not centered around food and drink since one of my illnesses causes allergic reaction to almost all foods – I know, I know! – However this has opened my eyes to so many beautiful spots for nature and for art that makes LA one of the most unique cosmopolitan cities in this country. And so I am happy to share two of those with you.

The first is The Getty. While I do love the museum itself, it has a beautiful range of art of course. But I am even more in love with the outdoor space. The architecture is truly special. It is white and soaring, it feels very modern but not in a way that is cold.

The real pull for me here however are there gardens. The Getty gardens are designed around a beautiful maze fountain feature. The plants that are chosen and the gardens design itself recalls something from an ancient greek utopia. With architecture and the garden all nestled amid the LA skyline the Getty brings this feeling that you have landed amid a little pocket of heaven..

The 2nd spot I am recommending is Fisherman’s VIllage – This is a really cute spot to take a date or a friend who is coming into town. It’s one of those rare 70’s relic beach shopping area’s that hasn’t been fully brought out and renovated. It is full of charm and low key activities. Fisherman’s VIllage sits along the docks of Marina Del Rey, The stores look like multi colored beach houses and there is a faux blue light house to top it off. On weekends there is always a live band playing music for passerby’s. It’s mostly senior citizens who actually get down and funky to the music, but they are highly entertaining and inspiring to watch in their own right!

You can start with a stop by KC’s Crepe stand (I no longer partake, but trust me they are delicious). Then you can stroll along the water to watch the Seals playing. You can follow this up by renting a bike from the bike rental – the beach is a very short and lovely ride away. Or even go rent a few jett ski’s if you really want to enjoy the waves!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out Tinsley of Tinsely Tarrot. As well as Tanisha thelunapriest3ss who has the awesome podcast The Aha Xperience.
