We had the good fortune of connecting with Tala Achi Mueller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tala, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am originally from the United Arab Emirates, though my family roots trace back to Syria. Moving to the United States at a young age and growing up in a multicultural environment profoundly shaped who I am today. I quickly learned to cherish the values passed down from my family. Living in a household that valued hard work and perseverance despite limited resources taught me invaluable lessons in resilience and determination. My parents and their work ethic taught me to strive for excellence in everything I do and that failure was not an option. They encouraged me to embrace change, adapt to new ideas, and appreciate diversity. My background and upbringing have deeply influenced my character, providing a commitment to personal and professional growth. I navigate life’s challenges with a sense of purpose and gratitude for my upbringing.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a newer attorney who has entered the legal profession with a passion for justice and enthusiasm. I was often told I was “too bubbly” for such a serious profession. Despite these discouragements, I remained undeterred. Instead of conforming to the stereotype of what a lawyer should be, I am learning to embrace my strength of connecting with people, understanding their stories, and empathizing with their struggles. I approach cases with a human touch and advocate passionately. My bubbly personality and positivity are becoming great assets. I have realized that being “too bubbly” is not a weakness but a strength in a profession often marked by rigidity and cynicism. I am hoping to pave the way and show others that success in the law isn’t solely defined by memorization and being a rule-follower, but also by passion, perseverance, and the courage to stay true to yourself.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in Southern California is such a blessing and I currently reside in the underrated Inland Empire. I enjoy the Upland and Rancho Cucamonga farmer’s markets, shopping and dining in the Claremont Village and Victoria Gardens, and the countless beautiful trails for scenic walks and sunshine. The Inland Empire holds many community events and festivals throughout the year, so we would attend one if it coincided with their trip. Outside of the Inland Empire, I would take them to the picturesque Newport Beach for relaxation by the water and Fashion Island for a delicious cup of coffee and shopping. We would take a boat tour to look at marine life and of course, the stunning homes. We would spend a day in Los Angeles to catch a hockey game (go Kings go!), sample great cuisines, and walk around the Santa Monica Promenade and Pier. I would squeeze in a day trip to Temecula for wine tasting, dining, taking a stroll through Old Town to appreciate the historic buildings, and browsing local art galleries.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would be remiss if I did not mention my parents, whose guidance and love have shaped me into the woman I am today. They abandoned everything they knew and loved, including our native language, Arabic, the only culture they were familiar with, their home and personal possessions, and friends and family; to provide us with the best educational and career opportunities. I want to be able to repay all the faith and trust they have put into my abilities. My supportive brother, who has been there through thick and thin. And last but not least, my loving husband, who makes every day brighter.
