We had the good fortune of connecting with Talibah Bayles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Talibah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After working for the federal government for almost 15 years, I decided to pick up the family torch of entrepreneurship full time in May of 2018. It was (and still is) important to be personally fulfilled in life even if it means leaving comfort behind. I needed to have a more direct impact on my community – specifically the black and brown small business owners. I wanted to play my part in closing the gap in what I believe is inequal access to the vital financial information needed to not only create but to own a sustainable and profitable black or brown business. Pouring into this community of small business owners, is true economic and community development. Therefore, I aligned myself with the opportunities that were on the table at the time, and the rest is history. Not only did I begin operating TMB Tax & Financial Services full time, but I’ve since established a nonprofit, Access Granted, Inc. I’m in this thing for the long haul!

What should our readers know about your business?
TMB Tax & Financial Services is a full-service tax advisory & small business financial wellness firm located in Birmingham, Alabama with clients across the United States. We assist financial institutions in funding bankable underserved businesses. Our mission is to advance economic opportunity for women and minority-owned businesses seeking equal access to working capital.

Through our nonprofit, Access Granted, Inc. (founded in December 2020), we collaborate with local, state, and federal government entities as well as CDFI, Microloan, 504, and other financial organizations to provide women and minority-owned businesses with strategic access to free (or radically discounted) accounting/bookkeeping/tax advisory services.

Direct access is the “special sauce” of what we do; we have no need to refer outside of our organization for these highly demanded technical assistance services. Instead, Access Granted provides business owners with direct (in-house) access to subject matter experts and services in the industries of tax, accounting, bookkeeping, financial advisory, and SBA business loan packaging.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents are my heroes. Being small business owners themselves for most of my life, I know the pretty and the ugly of running a small business that your family is 100% relying on financially. They are the primary reasons why I’m so rooted in entrepreneurship. Growing up, I also saw entrepreneurship and throughout my family.
