We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Boyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamara, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. In life there’s seasons and seasons are always changing. One day my business may be flourishing and the next day it may be very slow but, because I absolutely love what I do my passion drives me to continue to pour my gift into the world and that is what makes me successful.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In the world of makeup artistry the artist has the ability to express how they see makeup to be as an individual. Separately creating beauty one face at a time. What sets me apart as an artist is I treat every client as a star regardless of age, color or gender. If you are sitting in my chair you will have all of my attention and the best quality of work. My passion is not to change the outward beauty of a person but to elevate their natural beauty outwardly.
I started my Makeup journey in 2011 at Lebec Makeup Atelier in Ontario California. There I was certified as a professional makeup artist. At this time I was a newlywed and a first time mom starting a new career. Whew. It wasn’t easy. It took sometime for me to gain momentum in this industry and at times I felt hopeless not knowing if my career would ever take off. Makeup artistry is a very saturated industry. I remember having to remind myself of my “why”. Why did I get into this field, what are my goals as a makeup artist? What are my core values? As I stayed true to my goals I was able to push through the hard times. I became content with my wonderful 500 followers on instagram. I was honored anytime someone booked me for a wedding or special event. I was grateful and remained humbled.
In 2019 I booked an opportunity to assist Alexandra Butler for the 2020 Black Radiance campaign shoot. Not only was I her assistant I also was asked to be on their makeup artistry panel. It was such an amazing opportunity and wonderful experience. From there doors opened for me as an artist. I’ve had many wonderful opportunities to work with amazing photographers, models, brides, moms and teens. Elevate makeup was birthed.
We are here on this planet for a reason and we have all have been gifted in different ways to blessed others. My gift to this world is the gift of making people feel beautiful! There’s nothing more rewarding than to hand someone a mirror and hear them say “I look beautiful, thank you!” That is why I do what I do. I want the world to know that they are special, they are loved and they are beautiful. I get to share in those special moments with my clients and for that I’m truly honored.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my bestfriend was in town I’d take her to my favorite spots in Los Angeles. I can only plan a full day for her because I am a mom and have responsibilities 🙂
First, we’d start our morning hiking the Culver City stairs to enjoy the view and burn some calories for all the eating we’re about to do.
After our hike we’d go to my favorite coffee spot in LA called coffee MCO. Because coffee always is the best idea!
Next we’ll go shopping at the Beverly Center and have lunch at Yardbird.
After showering and a nap we’ll meet for dinner at Catch LA and finish the night with drinks at STK.
Hiking, coffee, shopping and eating is all we need 🙂
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I believe every good gift comes from above! God has truly given me the ability to do what I do and of course my amazing husband who has supported me every step of the way.
