Meet Tamera LaShawn | NeoSoul Singer & songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamera LaShawn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamera, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have been blessed with the gift of song and as of a few years ago I realized that I have also been blessed with the gift of writing. Having a gift like that my entire life, I felt compelled to share it with the world after already holding it in for so long. Music is healing and I want my music to be healing for others as it is for me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In the field of music there are so many different genres but the NeoSoul genre is not as prevalent as it once was and I feel that alone sets me apart from what we’re used to hearing on a day to day basis and it’s exciting because I find joy in the fact that there is so much that I have not shared quite yet and I can not wait too. Just getting to where I am now wasn’t easy. It required dedication, sleepless nights, determination and self examination along with managing my day to day life. Although I am happy to be here I know that I still have a incredible journey ahead of me. The most important lesson that anyone can teach themselves and that I have found to be very valuable is that if I give up, I can never get to where I truly want to be. I have singing my entire life but I never pictured that I would make a career out of it. As I became older I started to live music more and more and even understand it and it began to truly bring out the artist side of me. In December of 2019 I wrote my very first song and booked my first career performance in January of 2020. It was all a dream come true. I realized that I have always had a passion for this that was buried deep and with time it revealed itself. I gravitated toward NeoSoul, unexpectedly I might add. I have always been a big fan of great artists such as Jill Scott, India Arie, Erykah Badu, etc but never knew I would fit into that genre myself. I am now working on perfecting an album that I hope to have released by the fall.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would have to be at the LA County Arboretum and Botanical Garden, or the Huntington Botanical Garden, Grammy Museum, Venice beach boardwalk and the Santa Monica Pier and the Getty museum We would have to go to an amusement park, preferably Universal Studios – Hollywood and enjoy a wonderful hike at Trail Canyon Falls. Our eatery would consist of Roscoes Chicken and Waffles, Shake Shack, Dave’s Hot Chicken, Fresh Grill Mediterranean and of course our dessert spot would be Fosselman’s ice cream and Diddy Riese cookies. I really enjoy the botanical gardens and the outdoor life. It brings me so much peace and Tranquility. These places are also great for creating unforgettable memories which is most important.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to first give credit to God! Without me being blessed with this gift I would not be here in this very moment. I also want to thank my husband for encouraging me to write, giving me ideas and being right by my side through this journey. I have to shout out my wonderful family who supports me exactly the way family should. If I am having a show, they are there cheering me on, streaming any and all projects that I release and just being all around exactly what I need. I simply cannot forget my fans! You all are amazing and play a great part in keeping me focused and pushing me forward.
