Meet Tami Farrell Wyrick | Winemaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tami Farrell Wyrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tami, how do you think about risk?
I think so often in life we get in a mind set of worrying about what can go wrong that we don’t allow ourselves to imagine what it will be like if things go right. Risk taking is important in life and business. You need to take chances on yourself and your ideas. There are really only two outcomes, you will succeed or you will learn. Life and business aren’t alway black and white. If you learn, you don’t fail. You grow. Having this type of mindset has helped me pivot when things don’t workout the away I planned and allows me to give myself grace to reimagine better outcomes, rather than accepting defeat.
What should our readers know about your business?
When the world shut down in 2020, my business partner and I began brainstorming about business ventures and often shared photos and stories of us enjoying a glass of wine after a long day of parenting. We used humor to navigate uncertainty and bonded over our love and struggles that come with parenting. Wine became an open door for conversation and it was a natural transition from pleasure to business. We quickly discovered that the wine industry is run predominantly by men, while women are the majority consumers. Only 12% of wineries have female owners. We wanted to be a part of a change. Our goal was to create a wine for women by women. Something delicious and beautiful,
As a stay at home Mom, I didn’t have the financial means to start a business so I had to get creative. I started flipping free furniture on TikTok @tami_farrell. I had a lot to learn but quickly gained skills and a following. I used profits from my free furniture business to help pay for our wine company. I think it’s a valuable lesson to learn to hustle and find a way when you have a passion or a dream.
Our brand is about community and connection for women. We started filming Boozy Baking episodes on Instagram @madrewine and launched a blog on our website www.madrewineco.com where we share stories and recipes and encourage community. We host wine nights for ladies and hope to continue to create more in person events this year to further create connection. Motherhood can be lonely. People joke “Mommy needs wine” but the reality is mothers need community and support.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d start the day with a hike to Paradise Falls. It’s a beautiful trail with an actual waterfall you can visit. There’s a small cave to explore and beautiful trails to walk on. Next we’d be hungry so we’d stop at CiCi’s Cafe for some delicious pancakes. After that, we’d head to the beach. My kids love Leo Carrillo for the tide pools and giant rocks to climb. They also love riding their boogie boards in the ocean. On a good day you can see dolphins. We’d stop by the Malibu country mart on our way out to check out some of the cool shops and let the kids play on the playground. For dinner we’d head to Beverly Hills to eat at The Hideaway. Their food and drinks are incredible and the restaurant has such a cool vibe. I’d drop them off at The Kinney hotel in Venice to rest and of course leave them with a bottle of Madre Wine.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think that God places dreams and desires in our hearts that serve as a bit of a roadmap for our lives. I’d have to thank God first for being a driving force in my life. My parents always encouraged my dreams and taught me the value in working hard to achieve them. My husband has reminded me daily of my potential and my passions. He believes in me when I lose sight of myself. I also have a good friend Ramin who has helped me take my dreams and transform them to goals set with action. It’s important to have people in your life who encourage and inspire you. Rebecca Moses is an incredible talent and human whose “Stay at Home Series” brought to life my wine company. She featured me in her series and awoke a dream inside me and my business partner Kimberly. She generously gifted us her art which now adorns our wine lables. Our winemaker Michael Padrick, who when industry people told us no, he said why not. He has treated us as an equal from day one and continues to affirm our business. Kerry Krull who welcomed us with open arms and proudly features our wine at her restaurant The New Deal. All of our loyal customers who believe in our wine and the community we are creating. Lastly, Kimberly. She is more than a business partner but a treasured friend. Together we fought to breathe life into our business. She validated my vision and added color and fun to our goals.
