Meet Tammy Allen | Stylist and Comedian

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tammy Allen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tammy, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued a creative career because creating gives me a voice. It took me a very long time to feel like my voice mattered. I think a lot of people either don’t feel like their voice matters or they are on a journey to discovering it. What I love about styling is that it allows me to be a part of that journey. Everyone deserves to find their voice and present exactly who they are to the world. My job is to bring their vision of themself to reality and help their confidence bring them one step closer to finding their voice.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I personally love how fluid art its. It takes so many different forms that crossover with all parts of life. What we wear and how we present ourselves to the world is art. Everyone has their own unique style and it deserves to be honored. What sets me apart from other stylists is my ability to truly listen to my clients and value their aesthetic.
It has not been an easy ride to get to where I am today, to say the least. I didn’t know that a creative career was an option until COVID. I grew up with the expectation to become a doctor or lawyer, so I got a degree in Health and Exercise Science from Wake Forest University and realized I wanted nothing to do with the medical or legal fields. After graduating, I worked every odd job imaginable until the lockdown. At that point I had so much raging anxiety, I needed an outlet. So, I taught myself how to sew in order to cope. I eventually was good enough at it to be accepted into the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising for their Fashion Design program. There, I loved learning how to design and construct my own garments but found that my true passion was for styling. I love solving puzzles, and thats exactly what styling is. Creating the perfect outfit for an individual is so incredibly satisfying, and when it is done right, it makes a person feel amazing.
What I want people to know about my brand and myself, is my only job is to make people feel like the best version of themselves. Sometimes it feels scary to invest in ourself, but we deserve to feel our best. When we feel our best, we also look our best. Everyone deserves look and feel amazing. That’s why I am here to help.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend, Grace, was coming to town, our first stop would be at the beach at Santa Monica because she loves to put her feet in the ocean any time she can. Then, we would go to The Coco Club to get drinks and watch the sunset on their rooftop bar. For dinner that night we would get a delicious meal at Jonah’s Kitchen, where they have the most incredible lobster mac and cheese. While she’s here, we would also have to go see some comedy. That is a must. I personally love seeing stand up at the Laugh Factory, and I would also force her to come to a show at my improv studio, Improv for the People. Brunch is obviously a must, so I would bring her to Lou Lou’s in Santa Monica for their fun vibes. Lastly, I would bring her with me to Underwood Family Farms to go play with some cute baby farm animals.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
