We had the good fortune of connecting with Tammy Pettigrew and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tammy, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
One piece of conventional advice I’ve let go of is to “stop paying someone for the things you can do yourself.” That whole mindset is in the trash. I’m totally capable of running all aspects of my business, but I realized I was doing so to the detriment of my creativity, sleep, peace, and happiness.

I’m not sure why, but there seems to be this special badge of honor for people who do it all and are successful. I used to strive for that badge until I realized how much stress was affecting my body and physically taking me out of the hustle. I’ve now surrounded myself with people who are strong or experts in what I need help with, instead of laboring on my computer for hours and coming out of the end of it frustrated and depleted. I now have more bandwidth to create, enjoy life, and rest.

It made the saying “you have to spend money to make money,” so much clearer. Now that’s some conventional advice I can get with!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I ended up on this professional trajectory after earning a 0.8 GPA my freshman year in college. The D.A.R.E. Program taught me that if I smoked weed this would happen, except the lone stoner on my dorm floor made the freaking honor roll. The peer pressure he applied all semester finally caved, and I hit my first bowl. That was the beginning of my professional journey, although I was unaware at the time.

Ever since that moment, I have been unable to shut up about the benefits and value of the cannabis plant. Once I learned that there was science to back up all of my claims, it was game over! The passion that I speak with has been cultivated for over a decade and I’m just getting started.

One of the hardest parts of this journey was the lack of acceptance I felt at times. Growing up in Oklahoma, I may as well have been shooting up heroin to some folks. Even my own wombmate (see: twin) was disgusted by my actions. He eventually came over to the green side with my help, and is actually in the cannabis industry, too!

The lesson I learned is that I have to trust my inner guidance even when my environment is unsupportive. Today in 2021, what I’m doing is finally becoming acceptable in the mainstream, and what a relief! My burning desire to help destigmatize this plant is as vibrant as ever, and the peace that I feel knowing I was on my path even with all of the rejection is *chef’s kiss*, indescribable.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite spots in Southern California is Laguna Beach. I really love to hike Top of the World because the views are phenomenal and a nice sunset after a hike is such a great reward. I always take a trip to Gelato Paradiso afterward, because why not? I will stand in that line for an hour (and I have) for that gelato! If my best friend is in town that’s where I’m taking them!

Seabirds Kitchen in Costa Mesa is also a favorite of mine. I was introduced to cauliflower ceviche there and I have to have it at least once per quarter! We would also visit The Originals cannabis dispensary in Los Angeles or San Diego! They cultivate my favorite strain and the art and vibes in those buildings are unmatched.

One of my favorite parts about living in California is all of the outdoor activities. I love bringing loved ones to all the farmers’ markets, the desert, zoos, and amusement parks too! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are tons of people who deserve recognition in my life! There are my friends who have always supported my cannabis dreams without judgement, and my family that eventually came around, gets it, and now roots for me so hard.

The Cannabis Cutie team is everything to me! I am surrounded by badass women who make the day-to-day so much easier! They understand the vision and help execute it flawlessly.

If I could thank any heroes from cannabis it would be Jack Herer. He had so much passion and he inspires me to want to continue his mission of being loud and never letting up until the plant is free, the people are freed from prisons and jails, and their records are cleared of all cannabis “crimes.”

And always, I have to thank God for setting me on this path and for allowing me these gifts to accomplish this mission!
