Meet Tarun Parmar | Photographer & Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tarun Parmar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tarun, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind my career transition was quite simple: follow my passion. Despite my background in business management, I chose photography as my career path solely because of my passion for it. I had two guiding principles in my life: firstly, to choose a career that offered financial stability, which led me to leave my job once I started earning more through my photography, and secondly, to fully commit and never look back. Thanks to these two principles, I am now living my dream as a photographer, traveling the world for work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Recently, I have started a series called ‘Celebrating Humans’ documentary project on Vitiligo which aims to challenge conventional beauty standards and celebrate the diversity of human bodies. Vitiligo, a condition that causes loss of skin pigmentation, affects millions of people around the world, and is often stigmatized and misunderstood.
Each photograph captures the unique beauty and strength of the subject, who bravely share their personal story while challenging stereotypes about beauty and perfection. By documenting the lived experiences of those with vitiligo, I am shedding light on this condition and its impact on individuals and society as a whole.
My approach is both artistic and documentary in nature. Subtle lighting and minimal post processing capture the essence of these people and their unique individuality; creating a visual narrative that inspires empathy, admiration, and appreciation for the diversity of the human experience.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to extend my gratitude to several people who have played significant roles in my journey. Firstly, to everyone I’ve met along the way, each of them has taught me valuable lessons in this life and helped me grow.
A huge shoutout goes to my partner, Tina, who has consistently pushed me beyond my creative limits.
I also want to express my appreciation to all my professors, especially Nancy Burson, Vivian Allender, Saul Robbins, Chris Knight, David Mager, and others, for imparting their knowledge and skills to me. They believed in me and guided me on the path to becoming a better photographer.
Lastly, I am thankful to my friends in India and New York City for their unwavering support throughout this journey.
