We had the good fortune of connecting with Taryn Luquin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taryn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I worked & managed a tanning salon in 2005, I always admired people for wanting to look good but I wondered if there was a healthier way to tan without getting sun damaged from laying out in the sun or in tanning beds since they are bad for the skin. The salon owner then wanted to add spray tanning to their menu and had me do research on it. Spray tanning was barely making a breakthrough in the beauty industry then. We bought the equipment and supplies for it, taught the employees how to spray tan, and shortly after it was offered in the salon. Unfortunately, the salon went out of business.

For me, the thought of mobile tanning was a great idea and spray tanning came naturally to me since I’ve done airbrush in arts since I was 15 years old. I thought to myself that I can make people’s lives easier by going to them and tanning them in the comfort of their home or location of choice, and help lead them to healthier skin, after all, I do love helping others. I did everything by the book to start my business and also became certified, and that was when Paradise Airbrush Tanning LLC was established. Within a year (thanks to consistent advertising, marketing, building my portfolio, collaborating with others, and word of mouth) my business grew quickly and I was spray tanning clients in their home, at their work office, and on-set. Soon after, I began working with A-List celebrities, models, and high-end clientele and became a celebrity tanner. Trust and confidentiality are the key to my client relationships and those I work with.

It gives me great joy that clients are loving the results from their spray tan and knowing they looked good with one. It makes me even happier knowing that clients are tanning the healthy way and are saving their skin from sun damage and tanning beds. I love being a part of empowering women and giving them that boost of confidence with a flawless tan. Everyone tans for different reasons but the end results are flawless. I specialize in evening out skin tones, body contouring, and tan line cover-up, giving the client the ability to look flawless for whatever reason they have. Let’s not forget also that a spray tan makes whatever you wear look fabulous.

After testing out and using a bunch of sunless tanning solutions in 2007, I decided to create my own sunless tanning solution because I wanted it to be cleaner (as for the ingredients) and more on the luxury side in which I created it with organic, natural, and anti-aging ingredients in it; therefore Paradise Sunless & Beauty was established. Since then, my products have been sold globally. Then in 2009, I found that there was a lack of sunless education in the industry therefore, Spray Tan Academy was established being the first brand-neutral training & certification program. Since 2009, I have trained thousands of women internationally on how to spray tan, start their business, and help them be successful.

Spray tanning clients, selling my products, and educating others how to spray tan and start their business is not a side job, it is my career and passion. And my WHY is because I love to help others.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Spray tanning is definitely an art and you have to have a good steady hand to do it. Lucky for me I have done airbrush in arts for many years so spray tanning came naturally. After the tanning salon closed, I decided to do mobile tanning so I ordered a spray tanning machine, spray tan solution, and a few other supplies and started practicing on friends and family. After that, I then booked paying clients, and as my business grew in spray tanning, shortly after I tanned for runway shows, photoshoots, music videos, fitness shows, on movie sets, A-List celebrities, models, and high-end clientele. I am a hard-working girl with a lot of drive to keep growing. Was it easy? No, as success came to me, others became jealous and wanted to sabotage my business and that’s when I knew that I need to have a lawyer or two on hand. Other than that, my business growth was quite easy, and still, it continues to grow. My husband helps me with the business as well and spray tans too, he’s a big help. One lesson I’ve learned is that you can stay in your own lane and focus on your business but others will try to share the lane with you and push you out.

I’d like the world to know that my career in spray tanning is to help people live a healthy lifestyle without skin cancer and to educate them that there is a healthier alternative to looking good. Being a fitness competitor myself, health & fitness plays a big role with me because we have only one body and we must take care of it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my friends come and visit, I have a few favorite spots which are Santa Monica 3rd street promenade which is a nice place to hang out, and Paradise Cove. Paradise Cove is a relaxing place. A fun place would be at Santa Monica Pacific Park. My favorite restaurants are Carney’s restaurant on Sunset, Home Restaurant, and Kreation Organic Kafe & Juicery.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shout-out to Maribel Munoz and Juan Rodriguez from Tantra444.
