Meet Taryn Winters | Owner, designer.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taryn Winters and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taryn, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When I started my business, I took risks all the time. I think it’s impossible to move forward without taking risks. From reaching out large department stores to share my linesheets with them, to creating a production of my capsule collection without knowing exactly when and where that stock would be going. The first steps to starting your business are the hardest and those often involve risks.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a former ballet dancer, I think my lingerie line comes from a deep appreciation of classic beauty and flattering lines that I’ve learned growing up in a world with technical training but artistic expression. As a dancer you learn to find out what makes your movement unique and to speak with your body. In design, I’ve learned to highlight the things that make my brand special and fight for my point of view. I pay close attention to details and flattering lines for the female form, honored the classic shapes and techniques while presenting them through my own lens. I’ve learned you often won’t get the roles or recognition you want right away and you have to continuously train and be confident in your craft, and patient for the chance to show your abilities.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
All over Brooklyn!! In the morning we’d grab coffee and walk along Brooklyn Bridge park starting in Brooklyn heights looking over at Manhattan. Then we could head over to Red-Hook and check out the breweries and wineries along the water. From there we could visit the Brooklyn Museum or the Botanical Gardens before heading to Locanda Vini in Clinton Hill for dinner in an old fashion pharmacy and the best homemade Italian food and wine. After dinner drinks/dessert at home on the couch 🙂
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A few people! My fashion teacher in high school, Mrs. Brooks who created an amazing program at our HA encouraging us to consider jobs in design and fashion. The wardrobe mistress at my ballet school who took me under her wing and let me explore the beauty of being backstage and introduced me to all the amazing places in the the NYC garment center. And my Mother of course, who has helped me with every detail and stitch of my brand to this day.
