Meet Tasha Dixon | Latina Producer Actor Editor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tasha Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tasha, how do you think about risk?
I love this question! My career has so much variety, and it is because I am open to risk. I thrive on adventure, new experiences, and learning about people. I’ve risked it all to bare my soul on screen despite so much rejection, and represent my home state on the International stage,..a few times. I moved to the 2 biggest cities in the United States from New York to Los Angeles to pursue my dream. Whilst doing that, I started my own business, and continuously learning every facet of the filmmaking industry as I film acting roles to evolve into becoming a producer/editor, also known as a preditor for TV and film.
And my latest foray flying in zero gravity and working in aerospace doing photography and cinematography for Zero G is yet another extension of adventure I live to pursue!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am in love with every aspect of filmmaking. I enjoy using comedy, specifically, as a tool to help make the world a better place by disarming people with absurdism and laughter so that they can understand what it’s like to be in the shoes of others. I wouldn’t be anywhere without my mother guiding me and my dad supporting me. I am a first generation latina-american who came from a blue collar family. My dad sat me down when I was 8 and told me that if I wanted to go to college, they wouldn’t be able to afford to send me. From that moment on, I decided to buckle down so that I could get a full ride academic scholarship to college. While studying interdisciplinary film making and having attained a Hispanic heritage scholarship as well, my mom encouraged me to enter the Miss Hispanic Arizona pageant and write a book for kids. That started me on my journey to Miss USA and road to my filmmaking career.
There have been mountains of rejection, rivers of tears, and pivots to new opportunities. Being an artist is hard, especially this day in age. But I have learned tenacity and flexibility with a hefty dose of kindness and curiosity to learn, can lead to amazing opportunities that lead beyond your initial wildest dreams. It’s taken me many years to get out of my own way and let go a bit to allow for spontaneous magical possibilities.
I want people to see with my art and my life that I encourage them to dream, laugh more, and understand we all could be nicer to each other.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is so much fun unique weirdness in Los Angeles that I love to take people to. L A has some of the best local bands, and one funny weird one we’d see is Thumpasaurus! SoCal also has the best festivals, so one by the beach with the ocean as the backdrop is a must! While at the beach, grabbing some food and drinks at Duke’s in Malibu is the fun laid back vibe I’m calling in. Then catch the train and make my friend pick ‘north’ or ‘south’…because you can’t go wrong with the spontaneity of a day trip to Carlsbad or brunch in Santa Barbara. Once back in Lala land, any show at the Hollywood Bowl is sublime, followed by trapsing down the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard and ending up at my favorite clubs….anything done by the Houston Brothers (like Good Times at Davey Wayne’s or Level 8)!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so so many people I am grateful to have in my life that deserve credit for helping me become the best version of myself and inspire me everyday. As cheesy as this sounds, I would like to think my agent, but it is not for the reasons that people generally think. My relationship with my agent goes far beyond a working business partnership. She has believed in me for years when I have struggled to believe in myself. She is a shining example of a strong woman who has managed to build a business in such a male dominated industry with grace, intelligence, and fire.
She has not only given me support, but also advice and is a role model that I look up to for confidence and strength as I evolve and grow.
