We had the good fortune of connecting with Tasha Van Howe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tasha, how do you think about risk?
My husband and I have struggled for years to have a family of our own. Our son passed shortly after he was born, but never gave up, and we risked it all and took out loans for IVF, which failed, then another loan for a private adoption that ended in scandal. Although we don’t have the family we thought we would, we risked it all and our love has helped us persevere.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an author, and my first book was released last month. It is the story of my husband and I and our love that persevered through the heartache of having a family of our own. It was not at all easy, and on most days, I wanted to quit. I had to relive all the painful memories I had worked so hard to heal from. But within those memories was our beautiful love story, and reliving those moments was magical. We are high school sweethearts, and I was reminded that we chose each other first, above all. I learned that through the darkest of times, there is hope and to let love guide me. I learned it is one-hundred percent okay to lean on others and to communicate my feelings. This is also what I want the world to know. Learn to lean into the love that others give you, and don’t give up. Trust in your journey. Even if the outcome is not what you expected, remember there is a life to live and to live it. The infertility world is full of amazing warriors, and I want them all to know they are not alone, and I see them.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would definitely eat our way around the city. Breakfast at Openaire and lunch at Little Beast. Probably hit up Grand Central Market for a quick bite one day and enjoy cocktails and sushi for dinner at Mrs. Fish. We would also find time to stop by Pinks’s hotdogs because… Yumm.
At some point, we would find a place with live music, visit the Getty, ride the electric bike parade in Venice after we spent the day relaxing on the beach.
And of course we would visit local bookstores and buy way too many books at Lost Books and grab a Latte at Zinc.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband has walked beside me through our journey to parenthood. Not behind or ahead of, but beside me. When I was in the darkest of times after we lost our son and after I lost the ability to walk, his love and support never waivered. He is why I am still here today.
