Meet Taylour Martin | Abstract Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylour, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think the most important creative risk an artist can take is putting their true touch into their art and out into the world. Yes, you’re left open to be judged and all you want is to be accepted, but if you show up as your true self then you will find your community and your true path which is the best risk you can take to support your art.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My works are deeply personal, as I continue to channel and process my emotions and memories with joy onto the canvas. I’m called to make art that embodies what it’s like to be human. I’m inspired by the notion that there is an artist within all of us and that one just needs to be given permission to create.
I would say the most challenging part of my journey so far was getting started. I had art teachers telling me I didn’t belong and I struggled with believing what I had to offer and create was valid. Getting to the point where I was confident enough and fluid in my expression on the canvas felt impossible and I left it for a while. However, my soul called me back and I learned to push past the voices telling me I wasn’t good enough. I use that positive voice today, in every decision I make.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
LA is full of awesome places to eat, drink, and listen to music. The best day for me would be, Bru Coffee in Los Feliz, hop over to Skylight Books and wander around. Thrift at Squaresville on Vermont Ave. and then circle back up the block to Goldburger! Go have yourself a nice little afternoon.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to dedicate this Shoutout to my friends and my partner who have helped me in my journey. Whether it be taking photos, helping me hang pieces at art events or other artists who’ve advised me along the way, I couldn’t have gotten this far without them!
