We had the good fortune of connecting with Tee Sorge and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tee, how does your business help the community?
We use our social network presence to raise awareness for the need of rescuing a dog rather than buying one from a breeder. Many people feel rescue dogs are broken that’s why they were discarded! They choose to purchase because they feel they are getting a dog with no issues that way. Little do most people know that most times breeders are puppy mills and the dogs they buy come from very questionable backgrounds full of many health issues
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Basically I am a personal trainer ( by profession) but have always loved dogs and about 26 years ago started a small dog rescue with my wife Tania Raskin. We slowly started rescuing dogs one at a time with help of friends who wanted to foster for us. It was a long and hard road to get to where we are now with Tobies Small Dog Rescue. When we started there was no social media so you can imagine how hard it was. When our beloved dog Tobie died we started a non profit in his honor and have now grown into a premier small dog rescue here in LA. We have learned many lessons along the way and have become acutely aware of all veterinary practices. It has become very evident that the more we know about current vet practices the better we are able to treat the sick dogs in our care. Mostly what we want people to know is that we do our best to properly place the dogs in our care in their forever homes. We are after all their last voice before their new lives begin and we do everything we can to make sure they never experience abandonment again. We try to make people understand that this is a commitment not to be taken lightly!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The beach would be the first stop with my friend . Walking , rollerblading or biking would be something we would do. After that sushi would be on the menu as it’s one of our favorite things. The next thing would be a good movie and some drinks after at a local bar that’s not too loud so we can connect and catch up. The rest of the week it would be trips to the shelter, foster arrangements and adoption meetings. Always followed with dinner and some quiet catch up time. I’m not a big party scene kind of person. More of a one on one let’s grab a great meal and talk after a long day in the trenches !
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife Tania Raskin has been a big support system for myself and our rescue as we have been doing this together for the last 26 yrs
