Meet Temir Hagmet | Tattoo Artist & Architect

We had the good fortune of connecting with Temir Hagmet and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Temir, how do you think about risk?
Starting my journey as a tattoo artist was a huge risk. I was already doing well as an architect, living the typical life—work, home, family. But eventually, I hit a point where I felt like I’d achieved everything I could in that field. And honestly, it left me feeling kind of empty. As a creative person, it was tough to watch something I’d worked hard on get completely changed.
In architecture, you’re rarely able to see your original ideas fully come to life. There are so many things that affect the process—clients, rules, regulations—and the final result often doesn’t look anything like what you imagined. I realized that sitting in an office, working on someone else’s schedule, wasn’t for me. I needed freedom to create in my own way.
One morning, I just woke up and thought, “I can’t keep living like this.” I needed to take control of my life and live it on my own terms. Leaving a stable job and a good salary was scary, but I knew I had to do it to follow my dream of being a creator.
I started working on myself every day. I kept asking myself, “What do I really want?” I just wanted something fresh and real—something that would let me express who I truly am and bring joy to others. I’ve always loved drawing, ever since I was a kid, and I still paint and sell my artwork. That’s when it hit me: tattooing was the space I needed to be in. It gave me the creative outlet and challenge I had been missing.
At that point, I already had a tattoo machine my husband had gifted me—he’s always supported me. So, I picked it up and started practicing on synthetic skin, fruits, and even on my husband (laughs). I did whatever I could while dealing with my fears. I kept wondering, “Will I be good enough? Can I handle this responsibility?” But I also knew deep down that I wanted to be the kind of artist who inspires people through their work.
It’s always harder when it comes to yourself. Facing your fears and doubts, while still trying to push forward, is tough. But I decided to go all in. I bet everything on this dream and believed in myself. Through meditation, self-discovery, I became who I am today. A few years ago, I never would have thought I’d get to this point, but here I am.
I stopped living in fear and started living the way I truly wanted. I threw myself into my art, often staying up all night practicing, trying to get my technique just right. I worked like crazy because I wanted to succeed as a creator and artist.
Taking risks and facing my fears was part of the journey. Without them, I wouldn’t have had the motivation or strength to push through. I had to ask myself, “What are you really afraid of? Failing? That’s not nearly as scary as never trying.” I realized that not going after my dreams would be the biggest regret of all.
So, I embraced the risk. I let go of fear, and for the first time, I truly understood my purpose. It was worth every ounce of uncertainty, worth breaking free from a life that wasn’t really mine.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I work as a tattoo artist, focusing on fine line, micro-realism, conceptual, and ornamental styles. Each piece I create is a reflection of my soul. Honestly, I don’t know if anyone gets as into their work as I do, but I fully invest myself in every project. When my clients see their new tattoo and smile, that’s everything to me. Their happiness means I’ve done my job right.
What really gets me pumped is when I receive excited feedback about my work. It feels amazing to know that my art resonates with people and brings joy to their lives. Each tattoo I create tells a story—stories filled with emotions, memories, and moments that matter. This isn’t just about ink; it’s about connection and shared experiences. I love getting to know my clients and becoming friends through our sessions. Each tattoo is like a journey we take together, and sometimes, it feels like I’m floating on cloud nine, lost in the excitement of it all.
I take the time to connect with my clients, discussing designs that mean something to them. I want their tattoos to reflect their true selves. My attention to detail means I always create a safe and clean environment for our sessions, which my clients really appreciate. It’s incredible to see them relax and let go of their fears. This process feels therapeutic; it heals and inspires. For many, it helps them embrace who they are, their uniqueness, and their confidence. We’re all different, and that’s our strength. Tattoos are a way to express who we are, a symbol of bravery and freedom that helps us conquer our fears.
I got my first tattoo at 16 after a lot of convincing my parents. It was tough, but they eventually understood how important it was to me. Throughout my life, I’ve battled fears and obstacles—nothing has ever come easy. I’ve fought hard and learned everything I know today. I realized that without patience, hard work, and dedication, I couldn’t achieve what truly matters to me. Taking risks and having a positive mindset are key to reaching our dreams.
I started my journey as an architect but switched to tattooing a few years ago. This change felt like the beginning of a new and better version of myself—someone who’s found their true calling. People doubted me along the way, but I ignored the negativity. I pushed through like a ram, focused on my goal, and kept moving step by step toward my dream. I knew I would get there; it was a matter of believing in myself.
Now, after overcoming those challenges, I’m grateful for everyone who’s been part of my journey. Every hurdle has made me stronger and more successful. I encourage everyone to smile and spread positivity, even during tough times. Remember what really matters and whether the moment is worth all the stress. Spoiler: it usually isn’t! Sometimes, we let our emotions take over, but staying grounded and calm is crucial. Meditation and breathing exercises can help you control your thoughts because thoughts are powerful. When you really want something and work hard for it, you’ll achieve it.
I want more people to know my story. I hope the light inside me shines in the hearts of many. I want them to see me not just as a skilled tattoo artist but as a real person who loves what they do. It’s important that they see my uniqueness and my freedom. I want my voice to reach everyone, and I hope my work inspires confidence and hope in those who encounter it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m absolutely in love with Los Angeles, and honestly, a week is nowhere near enough to experience everything this city has to offer. I think it would take a lifetime to explore it all (laughs). LA is this incredible mix of nature, creativity, and culture, and I’d want to show my best friend a little bit of everything.
We’d start with a hike at Runyon Canyon, one of my favorite dog-friendly spots with amazing city views. Then, we’d head to Malibu, where the coastline has this magical energy, and you can often spot sea lions. Lunch at Malibu Farm would be perfect, right by the water, enjoying fresh food with an ocean breeze.
To add some culture to the mix, we’d explore Downtown LA, stopping by The Broad Museum and the creative streets of the Arts District. We would definitely stop by an amazing place called The Last Bookstore.
I still believe that people read books and it could be a great souvenir from LA. Since I work in the Arts District, I’d love to bring my friend to Mad Rabbit, tattoo and aftercare studio, (where I currently work), and maybe even create something new for them. Afterward, I’d share some tips on keeping the tattoo looking fresh—taking care of your art is as important as getting it!
A day trip to Santa Barbara would be a great way to change things up, with its Mediterranean charm and peaceful vibe. Back in LA, we’d hike up to the Griffith Observatory to catch that famous view of the Hollywood sign and the city stretching below.
No trip to LA is complete without visiting Venice Beach. We’d bike along the boardwalk to Santa Monica Pier, have lunch at Gjelina on Abbot Kinney, and wrap up the day with a sunset at El Matador Beach—one of the most breathtaking spots on the coast.
LA is a city full of contrasts and creativity, and by the end of the week, I’d want my friend to leave not only with unforgettable memories but also a real sense of what makes this city so special.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely, it’s my family—first and foremost, my husband. He is my partner for 12 beautiful years, and together we’ve journeyed through life, experiencing every joy and challenge hand in hand. We’ve kinda grown up together, navigating various seasons of life. There were moments when I felt like giving up, but he was always there, lifting me up with his warm embrace and whispering words of encouragement, reminding me of my talent and potential. He even allowed me to tattoo him as my first practice piece, trusting me with the gift of his skin when I was just starting out. I feel incredibly blessed, and every day I thank fate for weaving our paths together. He is my safe haven, my warm harbor in a sometimes stormy sea.
My parents have also played a significant role in shaping who I am, especially my mom. She is brilliant fashion designer and my dad, a sculptor, they both infused my life with creativity and inspiration. My mom would sometimes give me feedback I didn’t want to hear, but her honesty was a guiding light, urging me to grow and improve. Thanks to my parents, I’ve learned so much about artistry and truly know how to savor the beauty of life.
And then there are my dogs—two enchanting little souls, Maggie and Leo. These Jack Russells are bundles of energy, and with them, life is always an adventure filled with joy and laughter.
I also found my way to an extraordinary company, Inked Tattoo Shops, where I met a wonderful community of talented and successful individuals who inspire me every day. They have become a cherished part of my life, and I am endlessly grateful for their support and friendship. Currently, I work at Mad Rabbit, where we’ve cultivated a family-like atmosphere. The people here are truly amazing, and every day I am invigorated by the collaboration and creativity we share. Together, we are ready to embrace new adventures and conquer the beautiful heights of Los Angeles!
