Meet Teona Zak | Singer, songwriter , Performer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Teona Zak and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Teona, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued the artistic career because I was always drawn to music. I went through a very hard time when I was growing up. My father left at a young age and I saw myself put walls up and not want to be vulnerable with anyone. I was closed off and didn’t think there was a way to open up again because of the pain. Suddenly, my voice instructor recommended I would go to a song writing workshop and I did just that. I found myself at the age of 14 writing one of the most vulnerable songs I have still till this day – Monster. Everything I couldn’t say I wrote and sang, and that inspired me to continue, because I finally let go of the pain I was carrying. I found a way to be vulnerable and unapologetically honest. I saw that truly when words fail music speaks. From that moment on I continued to write and perform. I fell in love with creating and putting myself out. I want my audience to not just listen, but to feel. Music helps so many, because before I was able to write, I would listen to other artists whose words and voice inspired me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a contemporary pop artist whose style incorporates soulful, bluesy, vulnerable, emotive and unique tones. I am a singer/songwriter who mixes pop music with dark, rich, emotional textures that express my storytelling. My music is heartfelt and unapologetically honest, demanding my audience to not just listen-but to feel. I have been a performer since the age of eight years old, and began song writing at the age fourteen when I wrote and released her first original “Monster.” Through my hardest times, that is when I found my musical passion. Music allowed me to express what words alone could not. My songwriting allows me to story tell my most vulnerable times, and truly show my audience who I am. I released original songs in the beginning od the year that can be found on all major platforms under the name ” Teona Zak.” I recently graduated Berklee college of Music and moved out to Los Angeles in September. A lot of risks I took to be where I am, and never let anyones opinions get to me.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout Carson Ezell, because without him my music would not be where it is today. We started off as best friends that met in Berkeley College of Music. From there pre covid we were messing around with a song I wrote and it ended up being the bridge to our music partnership. From that moment on we worked side by side and created so many songs together. I am thankful for not just his amazing mind and talent, but his friendship. It’s easy to find a business partner, but in life it’s hard to find a true friend. He has watched me grow in my career and has stood by me since the very beginning. His love and support in my career is something unmatched and like I said, I wouldn’t be the artist I am today because of him, and my music wouldn’t be where it is today without him.
