We had the good fortune of connecting with Teresa Madrigal & Evelia Ayala and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Teresa Madrigal, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Consistency is key for our success & our growth. In order for our business to continue to grow, we need to remain consistent with our products, our customer service, our product quality & great presentation. Consistency helps us stay strong as leaders, so that we can continue to create effective plans that will help us move forward. Consistency helps our team communicate effectively with each other other to make powerful decisions that will aid us in presenting products that our consumers will love. Showing our customers that consistency is key, it creates a deep level of trust where they continue to return based on a positive & authentic experience with our shop. Ultimately our goal is to achieve long term happy customers that appreciate our loyalty, as we appreciate theirs.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’re passionate about what we do and we see this as something we want to continue doing for the rest of our lives. We love that can create awareness about sustainability and the importance about shopping second hand. Building a shop hasn’t been easy. It takes time and patience to create traffic & creating the perfect marketing objectives. Having your own business is like adding a baby to your home. You have to nurture it and grow it for as long as you want it to grow. We’re Mexican, we’re queer, we’re women. We created our business with our own savings, we also experience anxiety and fear, we learned and we’re still learning what we can do to make our business better. We’ve moved and we’ve traveled, we’ve learned from our mistakes, then we pick up and keep going again. We love what we do and you need heart to grow something from the bottom – up. If we can do it, you can do it too. You can grow a business while you have a 9-5, you can do this over the weekend, you can do this after work. It doesn’t need to be your full time job, but it needs to have your full attention when you are dedicating time to it. The more time you dedicate to your business, the bigger it can grow. As cliche is as this sounds, the more authentic you are, is the reason people will come to you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If our best friend was visiting the area, we would ask them where they wanted to visit. If they dont have any specific plans, we would take them to visit our family members. We have hundreds to visit and each one has a difference experience. We feel the more people you meet, shapes who you are as a person. If they’re visiting our hometown Santa Cruz, we would – Start at Teresita’s grandmothers house for breakfast while we walk through half an acre of breathtaking garden views. Her grandmother has trees that are over 50 years old, so it’s great to see how massive they have grown, It’s a private forest. – Stop by our office to send out some orders and do a small photo shoot with our bff, that’s always fun! – Visit the local beach Sunset Beach, you have to go up a hill of trees before you get to the beach, so a little hike is always fun. – One of our family members just bough a house with a park, so we could go afterwards to take a short hike and play a fun sport. – Brunch at our favorite spot Cowboys Corner and ask all of our local friends & some family members to join us so they can get to know the different personalities that have helped shape our lives. We. love Cowboys Corner, it. feels like we’re visiting family so it’s one of our number one places to eat. It’s also a perfect time to check our business emails. – Talk a walk in downtown santa cruz for some light shopping at local mom & pop shops and thrift stores. – Visit the Beach Boardwalk. We have a lot of family members who work there so visiting our family is always key. – Pre-dinner at our favorite hot dog joint in Watsonville called Taylor Brothers Hot Dogs & our dinner at our new favorite place Slice Project Pizza, which is also owned by friends. – If it’s a Friday night, we would go to downtown Watsonville, there’s a killer farmers market and they have the best snacks and small tiny trinkets to take home as souvenirs. – Lastly, pick one out of our 100 family members to visit so we can watch a movie in the backyard with a cute bon fire, Backyard projectors are amazing!
