We had the good fortune of connecting with Theoni Bekiari and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Theoni, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Balance is a very interesting word. An equal distribution of weight, for us usually between work and personal life, between school and personal time, between people’s time and me time. In today’s world we as people have many, many things to balance between. We may sacrifice one for another, life changes and the balance that once worked doesn’t work anymore. What I have learned these past couple of years is that any Balance is meant to change. I have struggled and I still struggle to maintain my life in any kind of balance. What works for me is to be easy on myself. To not expect what worked a week ago, a month ago, a year ago to work now. To be easy and patient with myself, hear my needs, see what my body and mind tells me, and prioritize that in the balance. If I feel great, I can add more work things in the balance, if I feel burned out, time for some me time. It is an everyday, constantly changing schedule that is there to put some structure in my life. It is there to help me, not stress me. A tool that works for me. At the end of the day I would say to myself or anyone else, do not fight it, even if your balance is not balanced right now, it’s a wave and it will come back and leave and come back again. As long as you just keep at it!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have described my life before as the fortunate misfortunes of Theoni Bekiari. It always felt like every step I took towards where I want to be led to a disaster that because of it I got a huge success! I can’t really complain about that. For example, I started in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in January 2020.

Yes, 2020. But if I hadn’t I wouldn’t have graduated in 2021. I wouldn’t have learned how to edit, make my own films. I wouldn’t have learned to self tape,
self submit. I wouldn’t have been comfortable in front of a camera. I wouldn’t have met so many amazing and talented people, coworkers and friends, and.. my now husband! I can’t complain about gaining all that!

I believe the biggest secret to success is people! Surround yourself with people you trust, respect and want to work with! They are the ones that will push you to do better, involve you in projects and keep you updated. And always be kind. Even if you feel like you are something, or better, especially if you feel like you have something. Talent or what else. Be kind to everyone around you. In the industry, no one wants to work with people that aren’t nice. If you are difficult to be around, you will maybe work once, but not twice. That continuity person that you were mean to? They are now the first ad in a big movie, casting directors, your potential co lead in a series, and they remember you were not nice. Word of mouth is big, so be a nice person! Not that you should do it only for that!.

Another thing to keep you going, the tool that has helped me the most. One of my teachers told us this. Write in a piece of paper why you want to be what you want to be. Your why. And every time you doubt yourself, everytime you feel bad, everytime you feel like you don’t want or can’t do this, read your letter!

Perseverance and longevity is one of the biggest secrets in the Acting world, and I am sure in many others too!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in LA you have so many options! From the beach to all the movies, from all the different food trucks to the desert! LA feels like it has everything! My family doesn’t live here so when they visit, I PLAN their whole stay so they can experience the most! First I want to get rid of the way the idea that tourist spots are not good. I don’t believe that. They are the tourist spots for a reason. And if you don’t have a local to guide you do not feel bad if your trip is “only tourist attractions”.

There are also SO many places you can eat good food that one lifetime living here may not even be enough to experience them all!

I love the Santa Monica pier! On it you will find the famous Bubba Gump but I say do not be blinded! Because on the Pier you can also find the amazing Pier Burger! To this day this is my favorite burger place!

You need to see the Chinese theater of course and maybe watch a movie next to it! While you are there pass by the Dolby Theater! But one recent find is the drive in theater in Paramount Pictures! Guaranteed for a lovely night!

The eco parks! Filled with ducks, and swans, green everywhere, snow cones and ice cream trucks!

You can’t really go wrong in LA!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband Devante’ that has supported me throughout the years as my partner, my friend and a really talented artist! I wouldn’t be able to retrospect as much in myself without him being there to hold me in my existential crisis. He makes life better and work more fun! I would also like to mention Blend it Productions, our new project that is coming up soon and also my personal motto that “Love Is The Answer”!
