Meet Thomas Hollow | Actor, Tenor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Thomas Hollow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Thomas, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My experience in entertainment has made me think the whole gig is about taking risks. In particular, weighing the pros and cons of opportunity costs. I feel like the jobs I have had have always come at the same time that other opportunities have presented themselves to me and I am constantly picking and choosing and hoping I made the right decision.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an actor and singer. I live to be on a stage belting my face off and hope to inspire audiences. I would like to think my work ethic sets me apart from the pack. I have an obsession with improving my skills and working my way up to bigger and bigger stages. My journey with music started in percussion, learning kit drum from my dad. Eventually I found out I was supposed to be a singer, with a little push from my sister, Chelsea Hollow. I earned my BA in vocal Performance from UCLA where I studied in the studio of Vladimir Chernov. Without talking forever, I mean to say I have had the privilege of working with some amazing performers who have shaped my artistry and performance.
Performance has always come naturally to me, as I feel very comfortable in my own skin on the stage. Before my Junior recital, Maestro Chernov left me with one of the greatest single lessons I’ve taken away from performance. In his thick Russian Accent with wild hand gestures and boisterous bravado, he looked me dead in the eyes to say, “You go out there and ask the audience what they think of you… NO! Never this way! You tell them ‘you are here to watch me! This is who I am.'” I try to live by that everyday.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend didn’t live in my house with me, I’d make sure to take him all over LA. One night could be a dinner/bar crawl along Magnolia from The Fat Dog to EAT to Republic of Pie and end up at Player One for late night karaoke and arcade games. In the daytime, I’d have to take him on a trip to Santa Monica for a beautiful beach day, and on the way back we would have to stop on Sawtelle’s Japantown for Asian cuisine. Of course I would have to take an out-of-towner to all the gimmic-y places like LACMA and Griffith and the Getty (even if it wasn’t his thing, I’d love an excuse to go).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to Drew Lake, Nick Mattera, Michael Deni and Reid Emmons. These three constantly inspire, inform, and excite my creativity.
