Meet Thu Saminathen | DJ & Cannabis Events

We had the good fortune of connecting with Thu Saminathen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Thu, what do you want people to remember about you?
When I thnk about what my legacy will be.. I want people to remeber how I made them feel. I love connecting with people and sharing genuinine energy,I thrive on memories. It brings me happiness when people feel seen and heard. I will continue to make moments for myself and anyone around me till the end of time.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Thu, like the number 2. I’m originally from the Bay Area. When I was 18-22 I threw club events in SF + San Jose. I would book venues, hire DJs, create contracts, put together themes/flyers and even gogo dance. I’ve always had a immense love for music. In 2018 I moved to LA with a Marketing background. I quickly found myself in the events scene and connecting with all types of people. I started Major Vibes in 2020 – with the vision to create events catered to Cannabis,
Fast forward to 2024- I am 36 years old, learning how to DJ for the first time. I got my Rev 5 decks around my birthday and have been practicing ever since. Because of my history with nightlife, and building strong relationships- I have been lucky enough to get booked for future gigs.
I have struggled with feeling I need to be great – which holds be back from taking on events. & I remind myself – it’s not gonna be easy, but it will be worth it.
If you could take anything from my story it would be – it’s never to late to start. And if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my besties visit LA I give them a taste of what my daily day looks like. We would do a hike/workout at the Baldwin overlook AKA Culver City stairs. If the weather isn’t on our side, I’d take them to a heated Yoga sculpt class. After we’d grab some Philz Coffee and head over to Acai Jungle Cafe for the best Acai bowls.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Special Shoutout goes to DJ besties for creating a safe space to grow. Thank you for being a constant resource when I get fustrated and overwhelmed. Jason Declaro in particular for being a mentor when it comes to the technical side of DJing. ++ Marco Penta for allowing me to DJ in New York at ACME, which sparked my passion to see DJIn come to life.
My company Major Vibes has been a long time in the making. I attribute my cannabis community for supporting the dream. If it wasn’t for the move to LA I didn’t think anything of this could be possible. This city can truly give you the tools an inspiration to become anything,
