We had the good fortune of connecting with Ticara Devone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ticara, what do you attribute your success to?
One of the most important factors for me is to remain a student. I remember to constantly try new things and learn from others. Times consistently change and you have to accept it and by always being a student your open to those new possibilities.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets me apart is I am very down-to-earth, I am approachable. I think a lot of people come into this sneaker space and are actually mean girls. There’s room for everybody and I want everyone to feel comfortable so I am the girl who will tell you where she got her top from, where she copped her sneakers and what she’s looking to purchase next. Getting to this point has not been easy, sometimes you’re just working and really don’t know where you are heading. Overtime, my vision became more clear. I want to inspire those who look like me, who come from where I come from and show them that you can do whatever you want to do. There’s no clear path to success. I’ve learned plenty of lessons along the way but one that stands out the most to me is truly believe in yourself. If you believe in you, you don’t need the praise from others. They eventually will see the glow. I aspire to not only provide storytelling in my own way but to show those who want to pursue their dreams that there is no clear path to success but to stick with it. “I want the next young girl to look at me and say, ‘I can do it too.’”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would start with a happy hour at Eleven | Eleven here in Chicago because it’s amazing and it’s black owned. We would also make sure we visit some great food spots such as Uncle Remus (because they have to have mild sauce) Home Run Inn for pizza and definitely take a trip to the SkyDeck at The Sears Tower. If they have never been I would totally take them to see CloudGate because it’s honestly a sight to see. We would also head over to the Museum of Science and Industry for the best view of the cities skyline.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to my close friends. They are the ones who have lifted me up when I have been down. There are days when I felt as I had no purpose and ready to just quit but they were there to encourage me to keep going. I don’t think I could have done any of this without having amazing human-beings in my circle. They give their opinions when they think something is wrong but always provide a solution. I am grateful for them, I cherish them. Shout out to them people, they know who they are.
