Meet Tide Eye | Psychedelic Rock Band

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tide Eye and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tide, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk played a pivotal role in my life and upbringing. I’ve always found great joy in taking leaps of faith as long as you believe in what you are doing. I like to think of risks as a catalyst and a motivation to keep progressing and moving forward. Taking a risk should feel terrifying yet exciting, it’s what brings about change in your life and allows you to truly be who you are. Ironically enough, I decided that 2020 was going to be the year of risks for me personally and boy was I in for a surprise. Nobody was prepared for the world to shut down and I was definitely one of them. But instead of leaning into doubt and accepting defeat, I muscled the motivation to pick myself up and keep moving forward. I started my own business and got a business license, I reached out to people I was too afraid to talk to before in the industry and developed strong long lasting relationships with them, I even wrote, recorded, and mixed a full length album titled “Balance” with the help of my band, which I felt represented what we were all going through and feeling at the time. All in all if I never took those leaps of faith, I would have just been disingenuous to who I am physically and spiritually. Taking risks allows you to truly live and experience the life you were meant to have. What’s the worst anyone can say to you, “No?”. And even if they did, that should never make you give up, be honest with yourself and the doors of opportunity will open for you.

I think about risk with every decision I make. Taking action on a risk really boils down to how much I really desire what’s at hand. Just as there are pros and cons of any choice, the risks that I have come across in my life I see as opportunities and the choices I make on them can either push me in the direction I want my life to go or the opposite. One of the biggest risks that I took was moving from Texas with my girlfriend when we were teenagers. I left behind my entire family and all my friends and my job but I knew I could have a better life by extending my boundaries and going out of my comfort zone. Luckily, I found a job that pays the bills out here in California, which leads me to the next biggest risk I intend to take on, one of making music my career. I have an extremely steady job that I actually enjoy however pursuing music will be a risk because of how uncertain the turnout will be compared to the job I have now. Regardless it’s my dream and no matter how big of a risk it is I must take it head on!

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’d say our art is very expressive, not only in our music but in our lyrics and our artwork as well. We express everything we feel in the art we create. We choose to write about the actual reality of what people are too afraid to talk about and express emotions of the unknown. Exposing people to the truths of life and spirituality is truly what we enjoy. I feel that we stand out because our music is quite original and speaks deeply to the soul. Of course like any band we have very many influences that make us who we are, but I feel that we are rather unique in the music we write. No two songs sound alike and there is a little something for everyone. Tide-Eye began in 2017 as a heavy hitting psychedelic rock trio and has only grown since then. We have experimented with our sound over the years and can go from swelling cascades of psychedelic dreaminess and eeriness to loud thunderous rhythmic melodies that’ll get you up and dancing…or moshing and head banging if you feel so inclined. There have been many ups and downs along the way and I feel like we are at the point now where we are pushing our boundaries harder than ever to explore the possibilities of what we can do. Like we stated earlier, we are all about taking risks and pushing the envelope. We are ready to experience a new way of living and bringing change about the band. You can’t simply bring about change though without experience. I’ve learned so many things playing in various bands when I was younger that helped shape the way I pursue the creative direction of Tide-Eye, the do’s and the don’ts if you will. Starting this band was quite possibly one of the greatest achievements I could’ve imagined. We feel fulfilled in the art and sound we create and enjoy playing for our fans. We’re grateful for all the people we’ve met and all the experiences we’ve had along our journey and always look forward to the next move we make. Tide-Eye’s mission is to connect to as many people as we can through our creative expression and to build a community of people who can find solace in each other. Get ready to Tide-Eye your third eye!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whenever I have friends visiting, I always enjoy taking them up and down PCH, not only for the excellent views of the ocean but also for the experiences you’ll have while down there. I’d take them for a nice bike ride through Santa Monica and Venice and down to Marina Del Rey and back. Catching some waves and doing a little bit of surfing in Malibu would be the next item on the list. You can’t take someone to the beach without dipping in to our refreshing west coast shores. I love taking people to concerts, so I’d take my friend to see a fully immersive Psychedelic show down at “The Wisdome” in the arts district of east LA. Lastly I’d treat them to dinner and drinks at the illusive “Pace” hidden underneath the Laurel Canyon market for some of the best Italian cuisine LA has to offer.

I’m fairly new to California and Los Angeles. However if my best friend were to visit the first spot I’d take them is to the beach. My favorite spot is Point Dume in Malibu. There hasn’t been a time I’ve gone without seeing dolphins! Another one of my favorite spots is the Griffith Observatory, I love astronomy and the view of the city is incredible! Lastly one of my favorite spots to eat at is a place called “Tickle Tree Cafe” in La Crescenta, it’s a little brunch spot that has the best breakfast sandwiches!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to start by shouting out my girlfriend Karina Paz. She has inspired me in so many different ways to not only be a better more responsible man but to also pursue my dreams and a career in doing what I love. She pushes me everyday to keep moving forward and to never stop creating. I’d also like to shout out my family, for always believing in me and allowing me to pursue my dreams. Lastly, I’d like to shout out Devon “Devo” Young. Devo was one person who always supported our music and whole heartedly enjoyed what we are about. He would always tell us how coming home from a long day of work and hearing us rehearse was very therapeutic and calming to wind down to. He’s always been very supportive of our music and our goals and has always pushed us to keep moving forward and pursue our vision. Everyone needs that one person in their corner who just wants to see you fly, and we’re grateful that it’s Devo!
-Danny Lyons
The number one person I’d like to give a shout out to is my girlfriend Jessica, she is my best friend and she has an unconditional support for me that makes me realize that I can achieve my dreams. Especially tying to that risk of making my career revolve around music. I know she will have my back and support me through everything. Another person who could use a shout out is my boss Kevin Fleming at Kirby’s pools. He’s given me a job that not only supports California’s living expenses but also one I enjoy thoroughly. He also is helping me in striving for my dreams by allowing me to always have something to fall back on with my job, however I don’t want to fall backward. I want to fall forward!
