We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Coleman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
I believe there’s an incredibly huge misconception of the beauty industry. Although there are many stereotypes that plague this industry, it’s important to understand that the full scope of the beauty industry is so large and encompasses so many “compassion services”. The industry stretches far beyond the chair in the salon, even as far as hospitals. Yes we are in the business of making you beautiful but if done right, we have a very unique opportunity to ensure your internal health while putting you on the path to cosmetic hair rejuvenation.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a hairstylist of 15+ years. For years, I was dedicated to the idea of being an entertainment attorney but every chance I got, I found my way back to the hair salon.

I fell in love with the beauty at a very young age. My undying love for it led me to Paul Mitchell to get my cosmetology license. Then I became obsessed. This led me right back to that same school to get my instructors license (2018). That’s when the fire really started burning. I was so excited to teach students all the things I’ve learned & help guide them through their journey because I know what it was like to be in their shoes. To be vulnerable and nervous, to be honest an open about my weaknesses behind the chair. I’ve felt it all & I had a burning passion in my heart to give to them what I needed, compassion and care.

To go backwards a little, In 2012 I started working at Best Buy as a part time cashier. I saw an opportunity to move up the ladder into leadership. Keeping in mind that I always knew I wanted to teach cosmetology but I needed the leadership skills. I took everything I learned about leadership at Best Buy and took it with me back to Paul Mitchell (2018) where I was able to land a job as a cosmetology instructor.

It was not an easy task but I like to look at every situation through the lens of “progress not perfection”.. nothing start’s perfect & everything can be figured out. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned through this journey is to be good at “people”. When you master people, you can do anything.

I want people to know that my brand is and will always be about perseverance, consistency, integrity, and dedication!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m very spontaneous & love impromptu moments so I could grab a blanket, good snacks, beverages, gather my friends and have a picnic. I like to go with the flow of the day, the weather, the mood of the person I’m with at the time. Honestly, anything can be made fun. I love to people watch, so anywhere there’s a good influx of people, music and food, we can have a pretty good time. I love being outside especially at parks & other open gathering spaces

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My village! My friends & family that have stuck close to me as I’ve made transitions throughout my career have been my saving grace. They’ve always displayed extreme patience & even more support. From constructive criticism to continued celebrations of my accomplishments. Without them & God giving me strength & ideas, I don’t know where I’d be.
