We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Pitts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, what’s the most important think you’ve done for your children?
My name is Tiffany Pitts, I’m from the Slauson area of Los Angeles, California. I am the owner and creator of RatchetBuddha Brand and mother of three elementary age daughters. My eldest Maliah is currently 13 years old and my twins Tatiana and Taylor are 10 years old. My eldest has been home schooled for the past 3 years, due to a move that positioned us in a middle school district that did not offer the tools of education I desired for my daughter. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic of March 2020, I unenrolled my twins from LAUSD and begin homeschool for them after the disappointment in the curriculum I assisted them with virtually from home. Currently the switch and sacrifice to homeschool for my children is the most important thing I’ve done as a parent in terms of impact on their lives. The lessons and in all core subjects are now high interest of my kids and they are now able to have input in what and how they learn. They are now empowered by education and there is no such thing as “boring”. I am a Black, first generation, non traditional, student at UCLA and I share all the knowledge I obtain with my children and community. I fully understand the limits of my own elementary education. The homeschool experience shift has allowed my daughters to fully understand and practice critical thinking. I feel the traditional education institutions allows for minimal critical thinking due to standard curriculum practices. This is something I did not fully grasp until my adult life. I believe the impact of learning how to be a critical thinker will largely impact in my children’s lives as the continue their journey. The ability to take information and analyze then synthesize and add insight is invaluable. I always tell my children do your own research and thinking, don’t just take someones word for it, not even mine. Find your own truth and understanding so you can stand solid in your decisions and impact on the world.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business started by sharing my gift (we all have gifts) with friends and family. I do guided meditations focusing of different energy shifting based on the client. It is a very relaxing and enlightening experience. I have a very loving and gentle process. Most of my inner circle would not be interested in meditation or spiritual practices. I know my audience and offer support in a practical way that can be taken into their daily life. When the Covid-19 pandemic happened, more clients reached out with many of the same issues of feeling isolated, lonely, dealing with loss of loved ones. This created an opportunity to bring community together to support each other. It started as a trial and we have continued to keep the new virtual space active. With the support of family, friends, and community of strangers who become community I am most proud that the business has become a collective not just individual clients. While I still offer private and semi private sessions for community members who need more intimate settings, the group community is something I never could have imagined and was created by the people. The hardest part was my own fear, my own judgements, I was my biggest obstacle. The great thing is I root all my business in peace and love. I was able to receive the support and love from those who participated and they pushed me into the place I now stand. The greatest lesson was you can not do it alone, you shouldn’t do it alone. Everyone benefits from community and support. I want the world to know my brand is not about me it’s about us the collective, pure peace and love. All the other things are not needed to receive the goodness of this community. Most importantly, you are welcome and supported.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I love bike riding, there are so many beautiful scenic routes that lead to beautiful places. We can bike ride from my house in the city to the Santa Monica Pier. We would get some fresh fruit from the local street vendor, then head to Cha Cha Chicken’s Carribean ambiance for a nice meal. We would cruise the bike path on the beach and can take breaks at each new board walk. Another day I would love to take friends to the beautiful gardens in the area. Descanso Gardens is my favorite we can eat, hike, and chill in the beautiful nature. The Huntington Library gardens in down the street, another beautiful space with food and peace. I love hikes in Los Angele like Griffith Park and the Observatory. There are so many great places to eat in Los Angeles, farmers markets and museums to visit.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shout out to my children. Maliah, Tatiana, and Taylor. Thanks for actively participating in this journey, I do not do anything alone. School, business, wins, and losses, my babies are right there to support and join in the process. I know all things great in my life manifest through the connected loving energy we all share. Thanks to the babies!
