We had the good fortune of connecting with Timothy Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Timothy, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’m a very faith-based person, and I believe God through my faith has always guided me to the spaces I’m meant to be at certain points in my life. Even if that means removing me from places where my talents are no longer needed. After being laid off from my corporate position earlier this year, this allowed me the space and freedom to pursue my entrepreneurial and creative passions unapologetically and share my gifts with the world without fear and judgment from coworkers who often, didn’t want to see me do better than them. Being a storyteller has always been who I am at my core and for the longest, I denied my artistic abilities. However, one day I became ill from being in a job that no longer served me and trying to force something to work for the sake of pleasing others. I couldn’t take it anymore. After all, we only have one life to live and it’s a responsibility to myself that I leave this Earth pleased and leave a legacy for my future family. Whether through poetry, interviewing guests for my podcast, What’s The Tea with Tim, reading a script for voice acting, or modeling in front of the camera, I desire to tell stories through my art. Instead of investing in someone else’s dream, I have made the conscious decision to invest in myself something that made me genuinely happy. It’s also interesting because I’m an empath and storytelling allows me an outlet to express what I may feel in the world around me while also telling the stories of others. The best way to describe this is there’s a constant want to understand and tell our shared human experience whether in moments of grief or triumph.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My podcast, What’s The Tea With Tim, focuses on having real, deep, and honest conversations about the world around us. I shine a light on current events, and past experiences from myself and guests while aiming to inspire my audience, my besTEAs! We laugh, we cry and most importantly, you’ll experience pure joy.

The art of storytelling through content creation, voice acting, modeling, writing, and poetry has been a journey always in the making, whether or not I realized or wanted to accept it.

For the longest time, people would always tell me, “Tim, I love your voice. You should do more speaking engagements.” Or, I would walk into a restaurant and could hear someone in the corner say, “Oh my gosh, he’s so tall. I wonder if he’s a model.” At eight years old, I even published my poetry in a book. Candidly, somewhere as I grew older, I decided on a different path but ultimately my creative spirit never left. At times in my life, it felt as though there was a constant knocking on a door to create and only I possessed the power to open. The journey of being a creative and entrepreneur has surely not been easy. The most difficult part is believing that I can do the thing I set my mind to create while also blocking out people who are nay-sayers or are waiting for me to fail. However, there’s something magical, an otherworldly feeling, when you finish what you told yourself you could accomplish. To overcome this, you need to have the faith that you can do it!

For any creative, artist, or entrepreneur who’s reading this article, or someone who has a dream, or passion, and creating the life that you envision for yourself, I would like to share that you can accomplish your goals. Work towards your dream every day even when you may feel unmotivated, or the circumstances may seem slim. I promise it’s worth the investment in yourself, and no matter what, keep going because someone needs to hear your story and you never know whose life you’re assigned to change. The world needs you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve always felt most at peace near the water so naturally Point Dume Beach in Malibu is a favorite, while you’re there grab a bite or drink at Sunset Restaurant. Another great beach option is Bruce’s Beach or Dockweiler Beach perfect for a fun beach day with friends. For food, one of my favorite spots in Inglewood is Fiesta Martin, they have the best Mexican food in Los Angeles. While in Inglewood, also check out 1010 Wine; Events a black-owned wine bar and restaurant. For breakfast, coffee or tea, you must check out Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen founded by Issa Rae or another favorite is Met Her at a Bar in Mid-City. If I’m in the mood for comfort food, I also love Fixin’s Soul Food in DTLA. Some other great spots for drinks include Third Base in Hollywood, Topanga Social in Woodland Hills, or Hotel Erwin in Venice. If you appreciate art as much as I do, the landscaping at the Getty Center is outstanding and check out their beverage cart while at the museum.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m learning that success is relative and only you can define what is successful for yourself. Through expression and my creativeness success looks like being content with what I have accomplished for the day. However, I haven’t reached the level of success I have achieved today without the support of amazing individuals. I must give special shoutouts to my Central and South Florida upbringings, my family across the East and West Coasts, my amazing boyfriend Justin, my Los Angeles community of close friends, the 100 Black Men of South Florida Leadership academy and the members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Hopefully, I didn’t miss anyone but also sending a thank you to anyone who has ever believed in my dreams, goals, and aspirations. I promise I’ll continue to make you all proud.
