We had the good fortune of connecting with Tommi Aura and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tommi, what makes you happy? Why?
The obvious answer to what makes me happy is music and creating my art, but really what that is, is doing what I’m passionate about. If I follow what I’m passionate about like my art, being around supportive friends or family, meditating, those things make me happy! It’s easier said than done, I’m not always happy. Happiness is a journey and it’s a conscious practice. The more times I follow my passions and do what makes me happy, the easier it is to stay and get back to being happy.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My name is Tommi Aura, I’m a singer, song-writer, dancer, actress, model and creative. I bring my years of being in fashion as well as my androgyny into my art and that I believe sets me apart from the rest. The visual aspect of art is super important to me as well as the message behind each song and video. I pay close attention to the impact my art has on others and I strive to create a safe space for all fans, listeners, people like me and humans in general. No labels, no shame, total freedom to be who you are and my platforms and music is designed for that purpose. My journey has not been easy, but it’s been so worth it! The feedback I get from supporters makes any hardship I’ve been through, feel much easier in the end. I can be grateful for what I’ve been through because it helps others, it helps me cope through my art and I have something to say. I have a story, a message, a meaning behind each lyric, each track and each visual I put out. Sometimes there’s even a meaning behind a fashion look I wear to a show or an event. I’m a walking moodboard.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve lived on the West Side of LA for a while now and I love Abbott Kinney. When family or friends come to town, I take them to that area and we walk around, grab a bite to eat and even sometimes walk to the beach from the area. My favorite place to eat on Abbott Kinney is The Butcher’s Daughter. I recommend the açaí bowl or the vegan egg breakfast sandwich. It’s SOOO good!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One of the biggest supports in my life right now is my godmother and mentor, Carol Shaw. Not only is she an iconic makeup artist and founder of LORAC Cosmetics, she is also super supportive of me and my career. I really look up to her and the path she carved out for herself. She also has been through so much and is able to give me insights and advice that motivates me to keep going on my journey. I’m super grateful for Carol being in my life and being a part of my rise in success!
