We had the good fortune of connecting with Tommy Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tommy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My entire adult life has been that of taking risks and completing tasks under stress and even danger. This started at 18 and going into the military and at that age I had to do tasks both physically and mentally that I never had even imagined doing. It taught me that my only limitations in life were my own that I would put on myself.

After the military I became a professional firefighter and medic in a large Midwest metropolitan city. I made life and death situations in both fighting fires, conducting rescue operations, and treating seriously ill or injured individuals with advanced life support skills that I had been taught.

So I fast forward to the last 15 years working with in the entertainment industry I have applied the same traits that I had learned. Never be afraid to fail, because you can only fail up. By that you learn from your mistakes and you learn to correct yourself. You can handle any situation and adapt to numerous situations some of which being simultaneously.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a multiple best-selling author and screenwriter. I also enjoys his role as a motivational speaker and Host of “The Real Tommy Unleashed” on the IQ Podcast Network in San Diego and streamed over 10 stations. My show is heard on multiple streaming platforms, iTunes, iHeart, Spotify, Apple Play, and more. I am also a accomplished screenwriter he have written and been a Producer on the award winning short film “Life After Oblivion,”, based on his award winning adapted screenplay. My first feature film screenplay PTSD-A soldiers Revenge is currently in post-production by Panther Trail Films – Hollywood. I also received his first directing credit on the pilot series “The Tale of Richard Pic”. Since then I have directed and produced several award winning short films. In addition, I am also routinely cast as an actor in commercials, television, and film.

I am a founding member of VetPics Film Productions in San Diego, California. This is an all-veteran independent film production company which produced “Life after Oblivion.” Most recently I have been seen as the face of the national Spotify commercial as the man with the dancing dog. His best-selling novel Haboob Wind is now a screenplay, and recently won Best International Screen Writer by 8.5 Film Awards. and his new novel Two Million Steps was released in March of 2021 and went to Best Seller on Amazon in two weeks. Tommy has recently adapted this to a feature screenplay and in addition I have also recently written another feature screenplay called “The Broken Road” a romantic drama that has numerous writing awards internationally.

Before moving to the Los Angeles area, I lived in Madison Wisconsin and had a full career firefighter/medic with the Madison Fire Department and later retired from the U.S. Air Force Air National Guard. TI am also a member of various organizations, including the Hollywood American Legion Post 43, Veterans in Media and Entertainment, the U.S. Press Association, and has served as a freelance photo-journalist for ABC7LA News along with being a member of the California American Legion Press Association.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take someone to the Magic Castle in Hollywood, it would be a special destination for many. I like all types of food and drink so I would go to Yamashiro Hollywood in the evening for a fantastic Asian meal then over look the beautiful lights of Hollywood. I would also make sure to go to the Hard Rock Cafe and then take them to the famous TLC Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd. For lunch I love going to Wahlburgers. I also think visitors would love to go to the Academy of Motion Pictures Museum, Petersen’s Automotive Museum, The Getty, LA Museum of Natural History and the Science Discovery Center, followed up with Griffith Park, The railroad museum and LA City Zoo.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to express my thanks to (VME) Veterans in Media and Entertainment. Through this amazing group I have learned to write, write screenplays, act, and run set production. Their mentorship was crucial in my career.
