We had the good fortune of connecting with Tony Stewart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tony, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I’ve been embracing community outreach. I design digital content for Banker’s Anchor. It is this initiative by North Brooklyn Open Streets in my neighborhood in Brooklyn. They’re turning these open streets into public spaces. The team recently won an Environmental Award from the North Brooklyn Parks Alliance too. I wanted to be involved because me & my friends would walk past this street everyday after high school a few years ago. It was full circle!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I consider myself a pluralist. I practice amongst designers, musicians, painters etc. The best description I can think of is when Kanye West was on Drink Champs & he said “You wouldn’t have Virgil write a song for you or Drake choose a purse for you but I can compete with both of them at the same level!” That’s how I view things. I’ll be creating music at Jungle City Studios one day & another day helping design for Odell Beckham Jr. because I approach all these mediums as their own practice respectively.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Harun Coffee by Chace Infinite! It’s in Leimert Park, Los Angeles. He’s a legend, especially back in New York City. In NYC I’d say you should visit Dorian Gray’s in Brooklyn. There’s just this energy there!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Recently me & my close friend, Dennis Camacho, were working with Anthony Hart. I got to see him fabricate for Tremaine Emory & Kanye West! I don’t think I ever saw him leave to sleep & he would still create at this insanely high level. He’s a beast! It was super inspiring.
