We had the good fortune of connecting with Tori Mayo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tori, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Charcu.tori was the first actual business venture that came into fruition. I always admired food styling, and the idea of putting my creativity into something that could bring joy to others really helped guide me to starting this business. I would make charcuterie boards for family and friends or during the holidays and decided this was artistry was something I wanted to “Brie” a part of.

What should our readers know about your business?
Charcu.tori has definitely had its ups and downs. From having this almost a full time business to focusing my time on other priorities in my personal life, I have learned to try and balance the best I can. Being a one woman business has definitely had its turmoils, but there has always been more positives that outweighed the negatives.

I’ve learned to listen to myself, to listen to what works well for me and acknowledge that Charcu.tori doesn’t have to be my whole world and that it’s okay to not accept certain events/orders when I feel I am not able to provide the best service to them.

One thing forsure, I feel as though Charcu.tori has always remained true to itself and the overall brand vision. I’ve never strayed away from what I want my work to look like because at the end of the day, Charcu.tori is powdered by food artistry, creativity, and overall good pairings.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone were visiting the area of Chino Hills, which is where Charcu.tori is based out of. I would definitely take them as many places I could while also keeping it relaxed.

I would take them on an early morning hike in Laguna Beach, and then take them to Urth Cafe for breakfast. We’ll stop by at least one of Creative Babe Markets throughout the week, and visit any Farmers Market as well. Supporting small businesses and visiting farmers markets are definitely staple pastime activities. For places to eat, I definitely would go anywhere that has Udon, Pho, or some sort of noodle dish.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Charcu.tori has had the opportunity to be apart of many journeys whether that be through catering birthday parties, to weddings, to celebrations of life. We are so thankful to have had the privilege of servicing and meeting all of you along the way and for your support.

For all the “friendors” who have partnered/supported us along the way, we are forever grateful to have an established welcoming community of small business owners.

To my family, friends, and boyfriend who has helped and supported the endeavors of Charcu.tori.

Thank you.
