Meet Tracie Davis | Photographer & Art Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tracie Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tracie, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
I think it’s really important to always try to find some fun in what you are doing. You will put in so many hours, your heart and soul into a project. If it wasn’t any fun – then what is the point!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a photographer, art director and stylist. Most of my work exists in still life form, although I’ve been doing more work with people lately. I love working with color and showing playfulness in my images. Product photography can sometimes come off as boring or straight forward. I think the opposite – it’s a challenge every time to bring it to life and get people to take notice. You have a few common goals each time that you need to work around to visually reinvent each image. I find that exciting and love creating stories or concepts around each series I create. Whether that is through more straightforward visual aspects like a really distinct color palette or something more conceptual that takes little more time to connect with. I want people to interact with my images in a way that they don’t usually engage with product photography.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My most favorite place in LA to hang out all day is Covell wine bar in Los Feliz. The wine is always great, the staff is the best and they have great snacks. Another spot I love is L & E Oyster bar in Silverlake – I always sit outside, it’s the best little block to hang out on.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to shoutout to all of my incredible creative collaborators over the years. I wouldn’t be where I’m at and doing this if I didn’t get the support, mentorship and overall friendship from those around me.
